Second time moms....

What do you think you are going to buy for LO that you wished you had with your first one?

Honestly--right now the only thing we are thinking about is a video monitor (with a camera in DS room and the new LO).  So what about you?

I've looked at the Ergo carrier.  Do you think you'll use it a lot?  That's been my big debate with it.  I'm a working mom, so I'm not home all day.  When do you think you'll use it.  Thanks for the advice!!

A rock and play. I see how much my two nephews love it and I think it would be great to use that in our room rather than the pack and play which DS hated sleeping in because it was flat.

Chiming in here! I used my ergo carrier all the time with DS and expect to use it more this time around, since I will need my hands free more with DS. It's great when food shopping, anywhere you go that the stroller may be a pain or just around the house when LO just wants to be held but you need to get stuff done!

You use an Ergo when you get home and need to do something, and the baby just NEEDS TO BE HELD. Or if you have an older one, it'll be great for doing things around the house or out and about. I love my Ergo and still use it sometimes with DS in places where strollers are a pain (like the farmer's market that's really crowded).

I really want an Ergo too!!  My birthday is in May and I think I will ask my mom if she can get me one for my bday (I know, so exciting).  I personally will use it a lot.  I "wore" DS a TON and I think this time around with a toddler I would baby wear even more.  I used the Bjorn and it was ok... the Moby made me feel like I looked fat- I know it's stupid but because of that I never even used it...

Both DH and I work FT, but we loved carrying her, whether it was just for a walk in the neighborhood or running errands.  So much easier than getting baby in/out of a stroller and then navigating the stroller.  Think about grocery shopping with a small infant....baby is attached to you and you can push the grocery cart.  Same in any store!  I also loved wearing her around the house.  I could have access to both hands and get things done, but still have her close.  The BabyBjorn was OK for me when she was an infant, but when she got bigger, it hurt my back.  My DD loved the BB until DD got big enough to kick him in his "manly-bits".  I've had a few friends who could more comfortably wear the Ergo for longer, so that's why I want to try it out this time around.  I'm definitely not an "attachment parent" but I LOVED baby-wearing.

Same - a video monitor.  We lived in an apartment last time and it was just easier to check on him.  In our house now I'd rather not be popping in to check on the new LO and risk waking the older one.

I want an Ergo too! Had a Moby for DS #1 and it took me so long to get it on that it never seemed worth it.

Also, I would advise a Rock 'n Play. We suffered for 3 months before getting one, and it is truly the greatest thing ever invented. DS did not like his crib and insisted on being held literally 24/7 until we got the Rock 'n Play. We will be using it from day 1 this time around.

I think I'm going to get one of those MamaRoo bouncer/swing chairs.  I've read some good reviews but I just really like the way they look.  It's a tad expensive but I may try to get a slightly used one.  Anyone have one?

Nothing. I feel like babies come with too much stuff as it is! :o)

I will get a second monitor, but other than that, I'm good I think.

I feel the same. DD didn't use half the stuff we had for her, or used it once. I used the Moby constantly and the Ergo quite a bit when she got bigger. I also adore my video monitor. I think I'll get a second camera for that and that's about it.

We have a bassinet with DD and think we might get the rock and play this time - so many people raved about it.

I'm considering a video monitor as well. I'm also considering a snoogle (sp?) maternity body pillow.  (I know that's for me and not the baby!)  But I just can't do the pillow gymnatics this time around.

PS - I also sing the praises of the ergo.  We still use it on our backs with DS.

Nothing this time and it makes me feel bad.  We will have to get a convertible car seat eventually but we have everything.  I LOVE my ergo and use it all the time.  I got the RNP for DD2 and love that too.  If we have a boy I suppose I can go crazy with boy pattern CDs and clothing but I don't need anything.

EVERYTHING! My first baby was 18 years ago! Everything is new and different! I was in awe over that strainer mesh thing to put fruit in that the baby can hold and suck through! A real live automatic breast pump! They weren't as readily as available then. Had that crappy self squeeze plastic thing! It was so awful I would do like push ups against the wall with it to give my hands a break!

I never had a sling with DS, but I am thinking it might be a good idea with twins so I can wear one and carry the other.

There was more things we did buy that I didn't think we needed though. I don't think we really needed the infant bath tub. We only used it a few times.

Definitely a video monitor.  There are times when you will have this bizarre paranoia, like "the baby hasn't made a noise in 6 hours, what if it's SIDS" when in reality the baby is just sleeping.  You'll find yourself wanting to check on the baby all the time in the beginning and the video monitor would just be so much easier and give you a lot of piece of mind.
