Our baby is 9 days old but what has worked for us so far if we need to get her to sleep is to nurse her until she dozes off, then hold her for a good 15-20 mins until she is in deep sleep; then we warm a couple of blankets in the dryer and put a thin one on her crib and the other one on top of her.  This seems to work well so far.  The bigger the feeding she has just had, the better chances of her getting a good long nap in.  Yesterday she basically snacked most of the day instead of taking a full feeding so for her 8:30 pm feeding I worked really hard at keeping her awake doing diaper changes, undressing her, putting her on the couch and pressing a cold washcloth to her - it worked and we got about an hour feed into her.

Good luck.

lurking but I had colic babies.

What worked for me was dark room, white noise (raindrops or something...I had an iphone app),  woombie is the only swaddle that worked for us, and rock to sleep.

my DD had bad reflux so she slept on my chest/shoulder, my DS liked to be cradled in my arms in the glider.

If they take a paci put it in their mouth! My kids loved soothie/wubbanub but both gave it up around 4 months old and DS went to sucking his thumb (still does).

I also felt no guilt about nursing to sleep....IMO it was natures gift to make them drowsy/go to sleep at this age and I was going to take advantage of it!

I just thought of something else.  We had trouble the first two nights we brought baby home, but we figured out that she doesn't like to be swaddled.  When she slept for the first time unswaddled, we noticed she slept with her arms launched up over her head.  Since then we never swaddle her arms and she has slept much better since then.

Our DS also HATED being swaddled. Every time we would put him down he would start squirming around and would wake back up. We quickly realized that he was trying to unswaddle himself. After we realized what he was doing we stopped swaddling him and he did fine being put in his bassinet and eventually the crib. He likes sleeping with his arms above his head. Also, making sure he was in a deep sleep before putting him down helped. We would continue holding him after he fell asleep for about 10 extra minutes.
