Bing

DH and I are watching White Christmas, our favorite Christmas movie, and he asked me what I think of the name Bing, like Bing Crosby. I like it and think it sounds neat, and I am a big Bing Crosby fan. Would this name get a kid teased, or is it kind of cool and unique, but legit? Thanks!

It also makes me think of the search engine and Chandler Bing. Also, I think that is the NN of Kate Hudson & Matt Bellamy's son? People probably won't go straight to Bing Crosby. I think it's a fun NN if your kid has the personality to own it, but I probably wouldn't use it as a formal first name.

Bing is his nickname. Wikipedia says his given name is Harry Lillis Crosby. Not legit IMO and kind of silly sounding. I would expect a little Bing to be teased as a child and not taken seriously as an adult. Sorry.

I got the search engine and Chandler Bing as well. I also imagine a grade school full of people poking fun of him. It sounds like a sound, if that makes sense.

This is a great idea! I'll mention it to DH. And like PP said, his first name was actually Harry. I'll mention that one too, but I don't want people to think we were naming DS after HP!

Agreed!

And seconded! It was never intended to be a real first name to begin with. I'm sorry OP, but I think it's awful. And Bingham seems even worse to me. I'm totally over the last-names-as-first-names trend. Something about it reminds me of bunghole, too.

Due to my cousins husbands name being Bing I thought immediately of him. It is a nickname for him...he had an extremely ethnic name that is hard to pronounce so they call him Bing which is part of the name. 

It would be a tough name to pull off. I think I would go with Bingham and call him Bing.

DH gave me that look that means, seriously?, when I mentioned Bingham. Now Bing is officially off the list! I guess we're sticking with our original fav name: Mark.

Bing Crosby = Awesome. A child this day and age named Bing = getting teased. Sorry, I think it's great on Bing Crosby, just not now.
