gifts for family??

I have a friend who is pregnant and she has been looking at grandparent gifts. I am a FTM and was curious if I am suppose to get my parents and his parents a grandparents gift? Sort of like with a wedding, you get the family members a gift. Do you do that with a baby? I wouldnt think so, but I figured I would see if other people do that?

FTM, but I feel like that's a big negative on buying other people gifts when I pop out a baby. I've never heard of anyone doing it before reading a couple of posts on here. Would it be cute to get your mom or someone a Christmas gift from the baby? Sure. Mandatory? No way. I can't imagine having enough energy, money or time to do that right now. The baby will be giving people lots of gifts as she gets older, but right now, not to be selfish, but I think if anyone is going to be getting gifts, it's going to be her.

I preordered a flower arrangement for my mom and mil. I thought a lil thanks for giving me life, so I could give life would be sweet. I will call the florist the day after the baby is born. I don't plan on anything else.

I gave my mom a "grandma" locket, but it was really a hostess gift that I gave to her after my shower.   My dad and DH's parents have all passed.

I agree, that's the CRAZIEST thing I've heard!!!  No my parents didn't get a gift with any of our kids.  We got the kids "sibling" gifts but that is as far as it goes.  It's your day!  All you need to think about is, YOU and BABY!!!  Maybe send them a few pics after baby is born with a card saying thanks for them helping after baby is born or something if you are feeling really bad about it :)

Do you mean baby related keepsake type stuff? Seems like a nice thing to do, for certain family members. I've been looking for things myself, but haven't really seen anything I like. Lots of corny crp out there.

"Sort of like with a wedding?"  Um, I've never heard of that being done for a wedding, either.  Well, except for a friend of Pakistani descent whose marriage was arranged & whose wedding was extremely traditional in nature-- her husband gave gifts to her parents, but it was her "bride price."

I don't think it's the "norm" but if you want to do something like that - more power to you.

I'm not getting anybody gifts.  My son is gift alone.  I think the idea is sweet though...if you're up for it and want to.....go for it.

I've never heard of it done for a wedding, or a new baby. I will not be doing it, I think it's sort of ridiculous. A mom to be shouldn't be worrying about what to give to her parents to celebrate them becoming grandparents... Their grandchild that she is bringing into the world is enough, in my opinion.

Since we're having a Christmas baby I'm going to get my parents a grandparents picture frame like I love Grandma and I love Papa from the baby to them but if I was delivering at any other time it would wait until Christmas anyway.
