Same name as the neighbor's dog?

We found out today we're having a girl, which means (at least for us) the naming process has become much more difficult.  There is one girl name that we like, but it is the same name as the next door neighbor's dog. Obviously we aren't naming her after their dog, and other than the neighbors, no one would make the connection. Do you think this is an issue?

No, not at all. I'd just make light about it. Just think of it as your neighbors dog happens to have a great girl's name!

I don't think so. However, my dad refused to name me Nicole since it was his friend's dog's name.

She won't live next door to them forever. If it's the name you love, go for it!

As long as it isn't Spot or along those lines.

No I wouldn't think it would be a big deal.

I think it's fine, especially if it is a name more often given to humans than dogs. Like Maggie or Molly or Lucy which seem to pop up as dog names, but are more recognized as people names.

Thanks ladies! I figured it was a non-issue, but wanted to check with the wise women of the BNB :)

Do you mind sharing the name? And it wouldn't bother me.

Go for it. She also has a longer life span than the dog.

I'll be honest, I don't love the name, it just makes me think soup, BUT I wouldn't not use it (do I have too many double negatives in there?) just because it was the neighbor's dog name.

In fact, one of my mom's best friends has a dog that has the same name as our son, and I didn't even hesitate to use it, even though that dog will probably be in our lives for his whole life.  We even joked about it when she found out the name of our son:

Her: Ohhh I love that name!

Me: I figured it would get your seal of approval.

Meh. My mother was named after the neighbor's cat. She was the baby of 11, they were running out of names.

My son was not named after a dog, but I can't tell you how many people told us "I have a dog with that name" when we told them his name- Oliver- as a newborn 19 years ago.

LOL, the neighbor at the end of the cul de sac, where DS's school busstop was, had one such dog. They had new sod put down and caught their Oliver on it and yelled out the window "Oliver- get off the grass!". DS nearly jumped out of his skin.

I have the same problem. I love the name Chloe, but someone I know has a little dog named Chloe. That's something I just can't get over, but I don't think its a bad thing if you end up giving your child the name name as a dog.
