NBR: Package stolen off my porch :(

So, being pregnant and having a 2 year old means that online shopping should be my friend.

Yeah, not so much when you get the email saying your daughter's Christmas presents were delivered just a half hour before you got home, and there isn't a package on your doorstep.

UPS passed me off to Target and I'm waiting for a response, but what a way to kill the Christmas spirit than to know your neighbors (or the gardeners, they're out today) are stealing your kid's presents.

I have more stuff coming.  Now I'm scared to leave for fear that whoever took the first package is watching & waiting to take anything else that arrives.

Done venting.

This seems to be a trend. There was an article in the paper about a woman who stole $500 shoes off someone's front porch.  I guess she was casing a rich neighborhood because she was caught by someone's surveillance video.

I'm sorry this happened to you! If you see your UPS guy ask him to hide the packages (or put them in the back if possible) in the future.

sometimes i get an email notification early in the morning saying it was delivered, but infact, I dont receive it until much later in the day. I called the post office and they said sometimes when the mailman knows it will be delivered that day, they will just scan everything early so they dont have to do it later.

This makes me sick.  I've heard about this happening and I've been extra cautious with my online shopping.  I hope everything works out for you.  Have you filed a police report?

That stinks!
Do u have a neighbor thats home that you trust? I usually ask my neighbor to accept or take in packages for me.
I put a note on my door so ups knows.
Sometime ups also hides my boxes behind my trees or under my steps where we store the garbage cans. No chance they did that for you?

I had an issue with a delivery a while back. They attempted to deliver my package once and then never again. There was an investigation and everything. Somehow they misplaced my 6 foot by 9 foot rug!! How do you misplace something so huge!

They may have actually delivered it to the wrong house. I'm perpetually getting my neighbors packages, which I promptly run over and put on their porch and vice versa.

This has happened to me before.  The UPS guy delivered a box to my neighbors.  I didn't know them, but I DID know someone who knew the UPS driver and she asked him about it.  He thought he took it to the wrong house.  I went over and knocked on the door and, sure enough, it was there.  It was almost two days after it was delivered and they told me some lame excuse about how they didn't know where it was supposed to go.  My address was clearly on there and correct.

Check around with your neighbors or even see if you can grab the UPS guy.  Hopefully it shows up or Target is able to help you.

This happened to me once with my oldest daughter at Christmas. Aeropostale actually replaced my entire order for free. Then, about a week after Christmas, a neighbor returned the package and told me that UPS accidentally delivered it to their house by mistake.

Maybe yours was delivered to a neighbor because you weren't home or by mistake?

Thanks ladies.  I have talked to the one neighbor who was around and she spoke to her boyfriend (who was also home) who confirmed they saw a delivery guy (he thought) with a box going towards our door.  We live in a condo complex so we're not on the street, but that also means there's no control over what's planted in front, and there's nowhere to hide anything.

There aren't other neighbors home, but I will continue to ask around.  Meanwhile, I will continue to follow up with the shipper since UPS passed me off to them.

The really weird thing?  So, the UPS stuff says it was delivered about 10 minutes before noon.  I got home at 12:30 and the box that WAS there was from Amazon.com.  The box that was supposed to arrive was from Target (the one that told me it had arrived and hadn't; it was sent directly from Target with a link to UPS.)  So, whoever took it (assuming it wasn't misdelivered or anything) had to have come in a very narrow window, because they came BEFORE the Amazon package arrived.  (I mean, who'd leave an Amazon box but take one from Target?)

So I am still hoping Target will make this right, ship it again and have it confirmed with a signature, and I will always require a signature from now on--but that usually costs more and it's such a pain if you're NOT at home to chase down the packages.  Or I just can't shop online anymore.

Here's hoping Target makes it right and that none of the other packages I'm expecting get stolen.

I usually just have stuff shipped to me at work.  I work in a small veterinarian's office, so I don't have to worry about whether or not I get it (I'm usually the one that signs for it anyway).  Is this a possibility for you?

I remember living on a busy street and the mailman was constantly leaving packages on our front steps in clear view of the street.  So we requested all packages need signatures.  Sure enough, we received a package from my ex in laws that required a signature for delivery and the mailman left it sitting there on our porch.  Ex MIL was a rural mail carrier so she knew how to address the situation

Hopefully, someone picked up the package by mistake and returns it or it otherwise shows up.

I've had that happen 1 time (when we first moved in with a pair of shoes).

I would have things shipped to your work, or to another person's house (my mom always has packages shipped to my home for the same reason you mentioned).

I am so sorry you had this happen to you. This happened to me once and I think its a trend during the holidays. There is an increase in UPS deliveries in our office this time of year because many of my coworkers and myself included do not want anything unattended at the house during the holidays.

I hope you can get this issued resolved and that this doesnt happen again.

One of my neighbors (not sure which) steals my water delivery whenever I'm not home to get it. I get 3 five gallon containers of water delivered each month, and it never fails that one of them go missing. I have spoken with Poland Spring about not leaving my water in front of my door, but the delivery guy is an *** and does so anyway. My husband has become Sherlock Holmes, and is investigating everyone on our floor. They redeliver every time, but it still pisses me off that these people prey on our doorstep waiting for us to get a delivery.

This happened in my parents neighborhood a few years ago at Christmas. I don't think my parents had anything stollen, but the result was UPS required a signature for every delivery and that lasted about a year.

UPDATE!

Neighbor (who speaks pretty much zero English) bangs on my door last night around 9:30 and has the package.  Can't understand why--whether she picked it up because she saw it and *didn't* want it taken or the postman dropped it off with her on purpose because nobody was home or accidentally put it on the wrong stoop.  The important thing is we got it back and nobody did anything MEAN!

Not clear (what with the not English) why she waited so long (delivered before noon, not given over even though we'd been home since 12:30 until 9:30 that night) because the only words I understood were "box" and "postman."

Finally got a response from Target this morning and they were like "look around" and "ask your neighbors."  Quite frankly, I'm glad it all worked out, but not particularly satisfied with the slowness of Target's response or that they were like, in essence, "you figure it out."  (As if I wouldn't have tried that first--which I did.)  (I didn't originally ask the neighbor who had it because THEY DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH and I can't communicate with them.)

Still, I will always now require signatures even though that often means chasing packages around.  Or just stop shopping online when I can help it.  Shopping with a 2 year old is a pain but at least everything gets inside when I'm done.  (Unless she breaks it.)

UPS left a package for us once in the bed of our trucks. We didn't notice for almost 2 weeks. I was pissed BC I thought I never received it.

Though this should never even happen in the first place, you can install a fake camera on your front porch with a little sign that says, "Smile, you're on candid camera!" Maybe will deter any future offenses? Again, sorry this happened. I have a personal training client that has one on his porch..totally fake, but completely looks real!
