Glucose Tolerance Testing

I know I'm not quite second trimester, but my doctor had me do my glucose tolerance testing today, and 12 weeks seems a little early for that. Has anyone else had theirs done this soon? Is there any particular reason for it?

I did it around 10 weeks with my 2nd. My doctor had me do it because I was overweight and therefore at a higher risk.

I had mine on Monday, and I failed it. Thankfully, I passed my three-hour test yesterday, but I will have to take the one-hour again at 26 weeks.

Good luck to you. I was thankful they wanted me to do it so early, because at least I knew we would catch it early if I had developed gestational diabetes already.

Holy heck, we're pregnant again! Please stay here with us little Otter.

We have a heartbeat! 138 beats per minute and measuring right on track. Ultrasound 11/7/12 showed heartbeat in the 160s. Negative MaterniT21 results ... Found out at Anatomy Scan we're Team Blue!

Lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat.

Hey! I had my glucose 1 hr testing done around week ten. My mom has type 2 diabetes and my two sisters that were healthy as can be had gestational diabetes both times with their children. After telling my doctor this, she wanted to do early testing, and sure enough I already have it. One thing I have to tell you is don't beat yourself up about it and don't think YOU did something wrong. I bawled when I found out so early but I couldn't have done anything differently. I'm now 21 weeks and have to test my blood 4 times a day but my little girl in me, is healthy and growing right where she needs to be! If you get diagnosed. It doesn't mean you can't eat what you normally eat, you just have to watch your portions and how many carbs are in a certain food. For me, it was family history that my test was done so early, that way since I have it, they can watch her growth and my health sooner :) hope this helps!

I'm not worried per se, just curious. I am a bit heavier, and I understand my doctor's logic in wanting to test me. If I do fail the test, then I want to fail it early like this so I can make sure I'm taking care of myself and my lemon drop.

All that being said I do wish they'd had an easier time finding a vein - my entire arm hurts after the whapping they gave it.

It's most like have to do with your family history or you weight/risk of developing GD. I asked my Dr when do we get to do the test and he said weeks 24 and 26 is when they normally do it, unless I am showing symptoms that could result into putting me in the higher risk category.
