Baby Clothes Inventory

Ok ladies, hopeless FTM here... I need your help!! Below is a list of all the clothing I have thus far for our LO, up to 6mo. I need to know what I need more of, what I'm missing entirely, and what to STOP buying! So far I have:

Preemie
1 Short Sleeved Onesie

Newborn
2 Sleep and Plays
2 Open Bottom Sleep Gowns
1 Long Sleeved Onesie
2 Short Sleeved Onesie
1 Cardigan
1 Pant

0 to 3mo
1 Tee
2 Pants
6 Long Sleeved Onesies
11 Short Sleeved Onesies
4 Rompers
3 Sleep and Plays
1 Velour Jacket

3mo
1 Pant
1 Pair PJs
3 Sleep and Plays
1 Tee
1 Romper
7 Short Sleeved Onesie
2 Long Sleeved Onesie

3 to 6mo
1 Short
2 Pants
7 Short Sleeved Onesies
2 Tees
3 Long Sleeved Tees
2 Rompers

1 Small Halo Sleep Sack
1 Small Aiden and Anais Sleep Sack
4 Hats
20ish Pairs of Socks
1 Pair of Mittens

I know all babies grow at different rates and I can always go out afterwards if I am truly hard up for outfits in a certain size, but I'd like to at least be semi prepared...

Use what you have, see what you like, and buy more if you need it. Everyone has different preferences. So many people recommended the gowns, and I hated them. They're a PITA to get on. I like snap shirts and pants so I have a lot of them. I like sleep plays too.I was never a huge fan of onesies so I don't have many. It's probably an ok amount to start out with and you can always get more later. Also, if youve not had your shower yet, wait and see what you get before buying more.

That being said, I would/do have waaay more than that because I like to shop. Baby clothes are my weakness. But it is a good idea to figure what you like to dress your baby in before you get a ton of everything.

Just an FYI 0 to 3 month is the same as 3 month. Some companies just put the ending month on the clothes.

Also, PP is right. It's all individual. Like for me I have lots of onesies, gowns, and over a dozen sleep n play aka footie pajamas. Plus a smattering of cute outfits.

Thank you! I couldn't figure out if it was the same as "0 to 3" or "3 to 6"!!

I would suggest more pants to go with all the onesies.  Especially for the cooler weather.  I have maybe 3 pairs of newborn pants and 6-8 pairs of 0-3 month pants.

You will quickly learn the types of clothing YOU like to put on your LO, and ignore what anyone else tells you.  I hated the gowns.  I had at least a dozen sleepers (sleep and plays) in each size.  That is what we used the most and I didn't want to have to do laundry every day.  If we were going out I might have put LO in an outfit of somesort but if we were just going to be in the house, a sleeper was all she wore.  You will also quickly see that the items you have listed as 3M will likely fit into a category of either 0-3 or 3-6.  All manufacturers seem to have different size charts and different ways to mark their sizes.   More often than not, 3M=0-3M.

I was thinking that 3 months was the same as 3-6. And then 6 was the same as 6-9. I guess it didn't take me long to forget : )

The only thing you don't seem to have that was recommended highly to me was some 0-3 shirts for while LOs belly button stump is healing. the lady who ran by baby care class said that it was best for the first little while that the site not get rubbed at by a onesie.

I would get way more sleep n plays.  DS lived in those the first 6 months with onesies underneath.   I have at least 12 in 0-3 and 3-6.  One or two a day.

I have 3-4 swaddle blankets or sleep sacks that will fit for each size.  DD didn't have many poop explosions or spit ups, but sometimes you would just go through them.

Like others have said, you will find out what you like pretty fast.  I wouldn't buy anymore bigger sizes, just focus on some NB and 0-3.  One thing I did was buy a pack of Gerber onesies in the NB size and the next size up.  I didn't open them until I new that I needed them, but at least they were on hand.  I am glad I did, because I found the Gerber onesies ran small, and they were the only onesies that fit DD when she was first born. She wore the NB size for 2 weeks before anything else fit her and she was 7lbs 11 oz at birth.

Have you already had your shower?!? I have 0 baby clothes. I tried to get some at baby gap the other day and felt creepy doing it. You are making me super nervous that I have nothing.

I was always told to prepare to change your baby's clothes 2-3 times a day. Depending on how often you want to do laundry could change your opinion on what you need. I do not plan on doing laundry everyday and I have double to triple the amount of clothes that you have listed. I plan on doing her laundry 1-2 times a week.

This, and both my kids never fit in NB, grew out of 0-3 quickly, etc. I had a ton of onesies for DD I ended up returning because she had nails that grew quicker than I could clip, but was too chunky for baby mittens, so I bought a ton of the onesies with flip over hands at first. She was born in the fall so she wore onesies every day under her clothes and layers at night. Most of the outfits people had given me for her had hoods, which I despised because they looked like they would choke her in the car seat so I always had to take layers off and put them back on getting in and out of the car. With DS we lived in a different part of the country, so it was warmer even though he was a fall/winter baby. I hated onesies all together with him because he always leaked through diapers at first (nobody told me to point it down - DUH, lol) and I hated having to pull a soaked onesie over his head constantly.

You'll figure out what you like, and what works for your baby, don't stress over it.

Like others have said stick with what you have so far and after your LO is born you can work out what works or doesn't work for you. We have only brought about 10 or so items of clothing and have been given loads by friends. I think our LO has enough clothes til the age of 2.
