Spit up still on zantac

Good morning all! When I am not tending to my 10 week old, I am constantly online reading about spitting up. From what I have read zantac will not reduce the spit up, just help with the burning. Being that she is still spitting up, and it is constant, I am afraid to put her down in her crib alone because she will spit up and get herself wet and loose sleep because of it. She forever has a bib on and we go through at least 10 bibs a day. When we do transition her to her crib, I dont want to put her down with a bib on although she is still swaddled. She is on Gentlease now and I am thinking of mixing Enfamil A.R with her bottles. Has anyone done this and it helped? Or should I ask the Dr to let us try prevacid? If I am going to have her on a medicine I want it to work. I think the zantac is helping with the burn but again, if I am going to have her on a medicine I want something that is going to help with all the symptoms.

As long as she is not in pain anymore, that is the goal. Some babies are just spitters. My first daughter had reflux and was also a spitter like your LO. She spit up all the way through 1 year old. All the time, and everywhere! It was annoying, but you just get used to it. As for spitting up while in the crib, I am not sure what to say... It is unnerving, but we got through it. I wouldn't mess with things if she is no longer in pain... but if you want, you can mention your concern at your next ped appointment.

We switched from Zantac to Prevacid because LO was still in pain on the Zantac.  Adding rice to her formula stopped the puking, but she still spits up quite a bit.

DS2 was a spitter too.  It didn't matter what we put him on, he spit up constantly.  It lasted til about 15 months old.  As long as she's gaining weight and not appearing to be in a lot of pain, there's not much you can do!  It's really more of a laundry problem than a medical one :)

We were prescribed Zantac & Enfamil AR since like you said the Zantac doesn't change amount of spit up only amount of acid. You might want to pedi or call nurse about changing formula though if she's on gentlease for a reason, but it makes sense.

My pediatrician specifically said that it didn't matter how much she spit up, that it may be unnerving but the reflux medication is just trying to help with the fussiness and pain from the acid. My daughter was even having like projectile vomiting for a few days and the pedi just said some babies throw up...not to worry about it.

Prevacid don't really help spit up, just makes them stop crying when they do it. My DS was still spitting up at least an oz a bottle until his 4 month well check when his pedi had me add rice to the formula. It did the trick, he stopped spitting up. I also used RTF, she told me to switch to the powder. I did that for two days and the spit up came back, so what works for us is 4 oz feedings with similac sensitive RTF with 4 tsp of organic rice cereal.

I am not sure about the medicince, but if her spit ups become more projectile or more is coming up you may want to ask about pyloric stenosis. My LO was spitting up and it continued and became worse. They said it was reflux at first, but to later that it was pyloric stenosis and had to operate. It's actually very common in babies to have this. Just something to watch for, but of course if she is not losing weight or it does not become projectile then it's probably reflux.

She sounds just like my daughter (who also lives in a bib). Both of my babies have reflux and are on Zantac. My daughter still spits up constantly but is now just classified as a "happy spitter" - it doesn't bother her and she's still gaining weight fine, it's just a PITA when it comes to laundry. I've come to terms with the fact that she's just going to be a mess for a while!

We tried mixing in rice cereal but that just made the spit up thicker (that's all Gentlease A.R. is - it has rice cereal mixed in) plus they were drowning when they ate b/c of how big the nipple opening was to get the formula through with the rice cereal in it. Add to that that a lot of pediatricians don't recommend adding cereals this young because it fills them up without providing a lot of nutrition.

I would maybe ask about trying Prevacid - hopefully it helps!

Zantac only neutralizes the acid so it doesn't burn it doesn't stop the reflux. He still has it just no pain from it.

Maybe he just needs to increase the dosage, I'm not sure about formula since DS only got BM but the spit up did get better but it wasn't totally gone until 6 months when he was already eating solids.
