When did you take your newborn out?

It's cold and I'd rather wait a bit, she's not even two weeks old...6 weeks?  4 weeks?  I'm so paranoid about her getting sick...What did you do with your newborn?

I think we took him to Target to grocery shop when he was about a week old. We kept the carseat cover on, no one bothered us, and he slept the entire time.

Our LO will be 2 weeks on Sunday.  We took her grocery shopping when she was 6 days old - I kept her in the ergo baby the whole time and she did great :)

Maybe 4 days old? I can't imagine not leaving the house. Keep the baby in the car seat carrier, wear him/her and you are good to go.

The cold won't make her sick and getting out of the house will be good for you.  Don't get handing her off to sick people but if she's in her car seat/stroller/being worn, she's not going to get all that close to anyone.

The day we came home we went out for a walk around the block. We've been out almost every day since we came home from the hospital...just make sure she's bundled up and take her out! Fresh air is good for babies and for mamas.

We went to DH's uncle's house for Thanksgiving when she was a week old (there were less than 10 people there). We've been to the grocery store, Target, and the mall. If we're out she's in the carrier and covered up. As far as the cold, it's a non-issue because we live in Florida. It's never been below like 70 degrees and is usually closer to 85 or 90.

We are smack in the middle of cold/flu/pertussis season. My babe is 5 weeks today and we have been stepping out a lot for walks in the neighborhood. But no public indoor places yet. Yes I am a bit paranoid about it, but this is what my pedi recommended too. I would rather be safe than sorry.

My LO is 8 weeks and has not had his shots yet so I'm staying away from crowded places (which at this time of the year happens to be everywhere!)  But I've taken him out on walks when he was maybe 3-4 weeks old?  Obviously before that he was going to the pediatrician's.

We've been out for walks since day 1 - the day DS came home from the hospital!  We usually go for 30-40 mins on our walks.  During his first week of life, we've also taken him to the grocery store, and out to dinner (I was craving raw fish).  As long as you are not taking your LO to a super-crowded place, you will be okay!

We live just outside of boston so temps are in the low 40s.  I just bundle DS up with 2 layers of blankets plus a hat.  That is warm enough for him.

With this baby, she was about 7 or 8 days old when we took her to Target.  Would have been sooner had she been born at full term and wasn't in the NICU.

With DS we were at Target the day of discharge.  So he was all of 2 days old.  Then again though he was born in the spring whereas his little sister was born in November.

I think a week old? We've taken her to doctors appointments, grocery shopping, I've taken her to my mom's house and to a good friend's house. We also go mall walking so I can get out of the house. I either leave her in her carseat and she sleeps or I wear her in the Moby wrap and she sleeps. No one bothers her, especially if I'm wearing her. I don't worry about her keeping warm in the Moby either, as it keeps us both quite warm!

We did about the same. The Dr said it was personal choice but that with her own kids she took them out right away. I always kept her in the stroller with a blanket over her. I didn't let anyone look in or anything per drs advice.

Three days; to see the LC, then for a bit of shopping and coffee. He was fine!

We've been out and about pretty much every day since we got home. I'd go crazy just sitting at home all day!

Totally agree with this. We started taking our son out for walks at about a week old and are SO glad we did. He's close to 5 weeks now and has been in restaurants, malls, etc and hasn't gotten sick. I just don't let any strangers touch him (none have even tried.)
