Cora or Coralie?

Which name do you prefer? No longer sure about our choice of Cora Lynn. I like Cora Jane and starting to love Coralie Jane (pronounced Cora-lie not Cora-lee). Thoughts?

Our girl name was Cora Leigh, so I like either option Smile

I like both and Cora is on my list of girl names. Mine would likely be Cora Grace.

Coralie is pretty, I think most people would mispounounce it Cora-Lee, but that is just my opinion.

Well my name is Cora, so I am a bit biased. I have only met a few Cora's in my life and only in passing. A few people I know have used the name Cora or variations recently, so I think it must be getting more popular. It is an old-fashioned name, which I appreciate.  I will admit that I did not always appreicate my name being different as a child, but as an adult I do! Also, I constantly get compliments on my name.  Cora with a Lee or Grace as a middle name is nice, but a compound first name only ends up getting a nickname anyway!  Go with Cora :)

I've loved Coralie since encountering it in a French class in HS, but that was with the -lee sound. I think you will have pronunciation issues.

If you think you'd end up just calling her by Cora anyway, I'd just go with Cora. Cora Jane sounds lovely.

If you want it pronounced like Lorelei why don't you consider spelling it Corelei or Coralei to lessen some of the "Cora-Lee" confusion? I agree with the PP that said she'll always be correcting people otherwise.

I'm not surprised a previous poster thought you wrote Coraline because that's a name most of us have heard of thanks to Neil Gaiman's book (and subsequent movie.) I'm a Gaiman fan and considered Coraline for DD#1 but DH wasn't wild about it.  I love it.

I agree with PP who said if you want it pronounced Cora-Lie (like Loralei) you might want to spell it the same way, Coralei.

But I prefer Coraline to either.

I love Cora, it was my number one pick until DH's cousins named their baby Koryn, which I think is too close to Cora sound-wise.

Unless you spell Coralie a different way (Coralai for example), EVERYONE is going to say, "Is that pronounced Cora-lee...?" Because that was my first reaction when I read the name.

My middle name is Jane {first name Jessica :)} so I'm partial to Cora Jane :)

If you want to go with Coralie, you could spell it Coralei which would help to avoid pronunciation confusion a bit. :-)  Someone accidentally wrote Coraline, which I actually like a lot too.

The good thing about naming her Coralie(ei) is that she could still be known just as Cora, like a lot of Jonathans are known as John, Daniels as Dan, etc.

as someone who has a name that is pronounced incongruous to its spelling, please don't name her coralie and call her coral-igh. it's a constant source of annoyance for me :)

 I'd go with cora.
