no period...2 negative tests

My period is just over a week late.  I have never an irregular period.  Since i started tracking over the last couple of months it has been very predictable.  So this is not normal for me.  I took a test at 2 days late and then again at 5 days and both those tests were negative.  I'm not having any pregnancy symptoms except for possibly some light cramping from time to time.  I have read numerous people on the posts say that they have had similar situations, but I haven't really seen too many come back and update to say if they turned out to be pregnant or if there was something else was determined to have contributed to the late period.  Mainly what I would like to know is if this has happened to anyone that actually did turn out to be pregnant and if so how long was it before you got a positive test?  And if you turned out not to be pregnant was your dr. able to determine another cause for the missed/late period? Thanks so much!

I had the same situation this month. I was 10 days late before AF showed up. I must have O late. It is also very unusual for me. I am normally on a 28 day cycle but I guess sometimes it happens. I wouldn't get your hopes up. I have heard you can get negative results when you are pregnant but it is very uncommon. If you want to be sure call your doctor for a blood test.

If you've been reading the posts, you would have also seen the responses telling them that those symptoms are also PMS, to test daily for a week, and if they hit 60 days with no period, then go to the doctor. Sometimes you have a weird cycle. It happens. No cause for concern, most of the time.

Read over the newbie link at the top of the page in the big green block above where it says "Write New Post" (I'm being lazy and don't feel like getting the link).

There is no always or never when it comes to your menstrual cycle. Sometimes you just have an off cycle. You may have ovulated late or maybe even not at all, yet.
If you just stopped BCP or another hormonal BC then your cycles may be crazy for a while.
Edit to add...test once a week until you hit 60 days. If you don't get your period or a positive before cd60 call your doctor.

If you track your BBT and are truly late, then how many DPO are you?

If you don't chart your BBT and therefore don't know if or when you ovulated, then you should test once a week until you either get a positive HPT, your period, or hit CD60, at which time you should call your doctor to discuss jump starting your cycle.

It doesn't matter how 'regular' you were in the past.  Any one can be 'regular' and then one cycle turns a little wonky.  If the pregnancy tests are negative, then (for now) you aren't pregnant.

Periods are sometimes late, even if you always have a clockwork cycle.  It happens for a variety of reasons, such as because you may have ovulated later than normal, due to stress, illness, travel etc. or maybe you're having a longer than normal leutal phase for no apparent reason at all.

At this point all you can do is wait until you get a positive test, your period or go 60 days without bleeding, at which point you should call your doctor and they can prescribe provera to help you start your period.

FFS, don't do this.  Don't call your doctor for a blood test.  You'd be wasting time, money, and resources.

You probably O'd late.  Test once a week until you either get a BFP, your period, or hit CD60, at which time you should call your doctor to see what's up and jumpstart your cycle.

I have had "late" periods after having very regular ones. Once I O'd late, and this month my LP was 5 days longer than previous months. All are normal.

If you're wondering if people have ended up pg in this situation, those people would be on 1st tri.

Like PP said, if you've read these types of posts before, then you know what the answers will be.

There is no need to call your doctor for a blood test just because your period is 2 days late and you're getting BFN's.  This is a waste of your time, their time and money (either yours or your insurance company's).

HPTs are very sensitive now days and most people can get a + result within a couple of days of implantation.

Ditto all the ladies that said you probably ovulated later than usual. Tracking your BBT is the only way to truly know if your period is late.

I agree it is not needed, however, she is an adult and if she wants to waste her money or her insurance company's money on a blood test then that is her choice. I was just throwing it out there.

Yes

And even if you are temping, and it is truly late, it's still no reason to go get a blood test when you're getting BFN's at home.  LPs can vary in length.   Mine have been as short as 11 days and as long as 16 days.

I think the instance of late periods that eventually come is much higher than the instance of negative tests 2 weeks post-ovulation that are eventually positive.

A LOT of us have ovulated later than expected before. But all of those pregnancy tests state that if you are pregnant your test will be positive 99.9% of the time 18 DPO (which is just a few days after your period would have been late.)

So again, as everyone else said, odds are much more that you ovulated late. False negatives are extremely uncommon. If/when you get them, it's almost always that you tested too early, which means even in those cases you ovulated late. I think there are only a handful of cases ever of women who had negative pregnancy tests but were pregnant all along.

Well, good that you aren't requiring a reply, but I feel like giving one anyway.

People really weren't rude to you. Forum etiquette says that you search the forums for the information you're looking for before you post. There is nothing you asked for that isn't in a billion other posts in the last week alone.

Posting without reading anything that's been previously discussed is what's rude.

Thanks so much!

and furthermore if you would take time to actually read each post you might know what you're talking about also.

so just for the record, for those of you who came in this post because you wanted to find out what happened in my situation, my period came.  i was in about day 38 of my cycle.  i am going to make it a point to remember to take my temps everyday and try to start checking my CM daily. i'm currently reading taking charge of your fertility as well as Charting your way to conception, the free download from fertilityfriend.com.
