Success stories?

I'm curious if anyone out there that has a similar cycle to mine has had successful pregnancies?

I have an irregular cycle (average 35+ days), and I'm not charting temperature but tracking CM and would appear to have O'd on or around cycle day 20.  I'm on Metformin (500 mg ER 1x day) for PCOS.

I'm not really sure when to test due to my irregular cycle, although after reading the general info post it seems the best day to test would be 18 DPO. I am currently 16 DPO with negative test today.

I guess I'm looking for stories of people that have PCOS and longer luteal phases (20 days), that have had successful pregnancies and curious when you got your BFP? My husband and I just started TTC this month and I'm just trying to adjust my expectations.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share!

I don't have PCOS, but I have extremely irregular cycles. With DS, I believe I was on CD 58 or something crazy like that, and with this one, I was past CD 30.

I can't take a valid temp worth anything, so I tracked CM and cervical position. It was the combination of the two that confirmed ovulation for me. Checking position is kind of awkward, but you get over it. At first, it was hard to tell the position since I didn't know what I was supposed to feel, but it is obvious when it changes.

I got pregnant on the first try (meaning the "Hey DH - I'm ovulating. Get over here" tries) both times. I know that's not typical, and I was shocked myself.

With DS, I didn't test until Christmas Day (so about 21 days DPO). With this one, I got my BFP 13 days DPO (going by my chart, not by my dating ultrasound).

ETA - I just saw that you posted this on another board. In reference to the comment about geting fertile quality CM multiple times during your cycle, that post is absolutely correct. That's why I started checking cervical position - a low, open cervix indicates ovulation.

Thanks! And congrats to you on both your babies!

Ha - I totally get what you mean about checking the cervical position! I didn't note that, but I did that for the first time when I thought I would O this month and I noted that it seemed low, and soft around day 20, when I had the EWCM. I haven't checked every day, but I checked a few days ago and I was like "Uh, wow. That is different." High, closed, firm. Really like the end of my nose.

All that being said, I fully realize that even if I did O, there's still only a small chance that I actually conceived. And with a negative test at (possibly) 16 DPO, it seems unlikely. I'm going to start charting again this month and try to stay with it.

It just gives me hope for future months to hear of people with irregular cycles that have conceived! It just confuses the heck out of me as to when to test since I don't really know when the first day of AF is expected. 2ww is killer!

I had terribly irregular cycles. Once I didn't get a period for 90 days! My dr. perscribed Provera to induce a period and then I took Clomid to help me ovulate. First try and baby 1 is in the way!

A negative at 16dpo is going to be pretty accurate. More likely your just not 16dpo. You can try adding opks and testing when you see fertile cm. I know with pcos you can get positive a few times in a cycle, but it could only help. Temping is really the only way to know for sure. I O anywhere from cd15 to cd 30 and I've always caught my fertile window but I really need all three [cm, opk and temps] together. I've gotten a BFP 4 times in the past year using this method.
Also, your cervix should be HIGH and soft and open at O, not low and soft as you said.
Good luck.

I was dx with PCOS and we decided to try well ntnp for 6 months without any meds, just to see. I was having fairly 'regular' 42 day cycles, my last cycle was 63 days so I wasn't really sure when to test this time. I tested at 46 days and negative, tested at 48 days at Drs office, negative and again on CD 53 because I was having a werid emotional day and wanted to prove to myself it was going to be negative and just another weird cycle but SURPRISE BFP on CD 53. Best thing I can suggest is test weekly starting around the time you suspect you might get your period until it comes or you get a BFP. I went in on CD 54 and confirmed with my PCP, who thought based on LMP I was 78 weeks already, but turned out I was only in the beginning of week 4! Good Luck :

D'oh...pregnancy brain strikes again. I'm just glad when I can make coherent sentences these days. Thanks for correcting me.

I don't have PCOS but my cycles were an average of 37 days long (I was unaware this was considered irregular. Hardly anyone is the textbook 28 days?). My LP was usually around 18 days. I've had one successful pregnancy and am currently pregnant. I don't know how much the PCOS would hinder you.
