flu shot

Hi girls!  Just wondering if anyone who got the flu shot wound up getting sick from sick.  I have never gotten it but my doctor really pushed for it so I am thinking about it.  I am just nervous not knowing how my body will react to it.

I get a flu shot every year and I have NEVER gotten sick from it. BUT, there are people that seem to get sick after getting the shot. If I didn't normally get a flu shot, I would be nervous to get one while pregnant.

Prior to getting KU I always had to get one with the military and never got sick from it. Then the day before my IUI my RE told me it was a good idea so I got one. My hubby has gotten sick three times since then and I have not. Other than fatigue from baby growing I feel great. Not so much hubby =

Unless you are getting the flu mist- which is not recommended for pregnant women because it contains a small amount of weakened flu virus, then it is impossible to get the flu from the flu shot. The virus is inactive (dead), so you can not get the flu from it. You can however have an immune response to the vaccine, which can feel like flu symptoms, but to a much lesser degree than the actual flu. Those symptoms don't usually last long. It's a good thing to have an immune response, it means the vaccine is doing it's job and your body is building immunities against the virus.

Exactly right. It's impossible to get the flu from the inactivated flu vaccine. Some people do claim to get flu-like symptoms but i've never experienced these. With this year's vaccine I did have a little soreness at the injection site for about 2 days though. Hope this helps!

Ditto PPs - you cannot get the flu from the shot. Definitely get it - the flu is dangerous while PG, which is why OBs push you to get the shot.

As PP said you can't get the flu from the flu shot. However I personally always get a low grade fever and body aches for a day or two, so I can see how people might think they have the flu. However low grade fever and body aches are normal side effects.

Years ago, my college team was required to get a flu shot. I use to get so sick those winters and haven't received one since.
When I was pregnant with my first, I asked the OB. Even though they advised to get it, I chose not to and was completely fine the entire pregnancy.
I will not be getting one this time around either and I also teach in a school. Do what you feel is best for you and don't let people scare you in to it.
