Sleep battles

I am losing my mind.  My 9 month old DD has been fighting every single nap and bedtime for the past 3 weeks now.  She has never been a great sleeper but she would take 2 naps a day.  The morning nap would usually be about an hour to an hour and half and the afternoon nap would be like 45 minutes to an hour.  It used to take me about 20-30 minutes to put her down.  She would go down for her morning nap about 2 -3 hours after waking and her afternoon nap about 2-3 hours after waking up from the morning nap.  bedtime is like 4-5 hours after she wakes from her afternoon nap (usually around 6:30 or 7)

It's been taking me 45 minutes to an hour to put her down and it is a battle the entire time.  I watch her cues and put her down when she is tired.  And she's also not napping as long. (45 minutes max.  an hour and a half is unusually long for her right now)  I work full time so my mom watches her.  Yesterday she only took one nap in the morning for an hour and 20 minutes.  My mom tried to get her down for an afternoon nap but she said that after an hour and 10 minutes, she gave up.  She apologized to me for not continuing to try but I couldn't really blame her.  That's a really long time to be putting a baby down for a nap.

On Wednesday, she was with my MIL and she only napped for 20 minutes the entire day.  I don't know what is going on with my DD and why she won't sleep.  Is it too soon to just do one nap a day?  I am getting very frustrated with this.

Around this age, they will change their sleep habits. My son goes to daycare and usually only takes one nap a day (he will be a year old in less than 2 weeks), but he's been doing the one nap thing for some time now. At home, he is more inclined to take a couple of naps but at daycare, sometimes his nap is only 20 minutes long and other times he sleeps for an hour or more.

I really wouldn't fight her on this. If you can't get her down within 15-20 minutes, I would stop trying and let her play or something. She'll sleep when she's tired. In the meantime, you're just frustrating yourself.

Huge sleep regression at nine months.  Google it, or click this link below then scroll down.  It helped me through a few of these doozies....

I just wanted to say that I am having the EXACT same problem (including bedtime).  It's so frustrating.  I am at my wits' end.  Definitely going to check out the link below!

Thanks!  It's nice to know I'm not alone in this.  And the icing on the cake is she is still up multiple times a night.  I am exhausted and so is my DD and I don't know what else to do.

My DS went through this around 8-9 months as well. I could tell he was so exhausted and overtired but he fought his naps like a wildman! He doesn't sttnnight either.

I started scheduling his naps and it has made a world of difference. I was really stringent about it for a few weeks until he got in the groove and now I can be a little more flexible and follow the schedule loosely based on his cues and how he slept the night before.

I should add that I always rock or nurse him to sleep and during the initial time when we were getting on the schedule I held him for every single nap because that's the only way I could guarantee he would nap well. Now I usually lay down and nap with him in the morning and put him in his crib in the afternoon.

Good luck I know that is so frustrating!

my LO hasnt STTN since he was about 2 months old but at about 7 1/2 months he started getting much better, sleeping in his crib with two night wakings at the very most and even sleeping until about 5:30am.

once he hit nine months he has been waking up every hour!  i knew it was a sleep regression phase and he's also cutting his upper teeth...so im just taking it night by night.
