XP Housebound?

My LO is 5 weeks old now, but I'm still house bound. I feel like I'm being punished. She screams in the car seat. In the stroller and in three different baby carriers. Is anyone else dealing with this? Or is my LO special? I'm going crazy. I want to do stuff again. With her obviously, but she has different ideas. I see posts from lots of you that seem to be out and about. How do you do it? Do your LOs scream and you just let them, or are they content? I can't stand to hear her cry. So I just stay home. I tried to go for a walk tonight with my BFF and our dog. We tried a maya wrap. She hated it. And then we tried the infant car seat in the snap n go. Screamed. Sigh... We gave up.

What do you do w/ her at home? Presumably she's not screaming all the time.

You can't do much with the car seat. DD2 screamed a lot in the car the first 3 months and while it was super stressful and sad, I didn't really let that keep me from going places. But, she was always fine once there.

What other carriers have you tried? Do you think you are using them correctly? Have you tried a Moby wrap? It is important to your well-being to get out of the house. I never met a baby who didn't like to get outside and take a walk. I don't blame her for not wanting to be in the car seat and pushed around, I don't like snap n goes, though.

I am in a similar situation. My 7 week old hates tbe car seat. As soon as we get into a store she starts screaming again and is forced to leave. I try to go out and about but end up getting frustrated and go home.

If I know we are going to go "out" to shop or something I will plan to leave when LO would be going down for a nap.

He cries when I initially put him in his carseat but after a few minutes - especially if we start moving, he is fine. I think the more you try to get out even if it is just for a quick ten minute run to the store it will make it easier.

Wishing you the best of luck!

My dd usually yells when I 1st put her in carseat until we get moving. I used to stop and take her out & calm her down but realized even if I carry the carseat around the house while I finish getting ready she usually calms down.

Around the house she gets held a lot because she demands it. She will sometimes tolerate the swing, but it's normally not more than about 510 minutes before she starts crying. She cries in the car seat even if it's moving most times. Sometimes if she is tired she will fall asleep if I am in the back seat with her shushing her and holding a paci in her mouth. Left on her own she spits it out and screams.

Just wanted to let you know that this will very likely get better! It is SO frustrating, but this is exactly how my DD was at that age. Trying to go anywhere with her by myself was incredibly stressful. She would scream the.entire.time in the car, and I would often find myself pulling into a parking lot to replace her paci. If DH and I were together, I would always have to be in the back seat with her. She would sometimes be ok when we got wherever we were going, but we would often have to leave because she was screaming.

I think this is pretty common for very young babies, because it was a common theme in my new mom's group. However, she got so much better around three months old! She's now almost five months, and she will generally either quietly look around or fall asleep in the car, and she absolutely LOVES going out. We've been taking her to restaurants, holiday shopping, etc., and she loves to look at all the people and lights. She's super well-behaved in public (so much so, that we will sometimes take her out somewhere if she is being fussy at home!).

So, even though it's hard right now, it will probably get better with time! Good luck - I know it seems like forever when you're going through it!

Tune the radio in your car to static and turn it up LOUD.  Settles my babies every time.  When they are out and fussing, I play this video on my cell and put it in the car seat or carrier with them and it helps calm them.HTH!
