swimming lessons

is anyone planning on doing this before age 1?  Just curious DH wants DS to take infant lessons and I'm very reluctant and feel we should wait until he's 2 or 3.

I am going to look in to doing them next month. Lo loves the water so I think it will be great!

I want to do them, but I think my husband finds them kind of silly for a baby that young. I understand his perspective. I don't think lessons at this age will do much to teach your baby to swim, but they may get the baby used to being in the water at a very young age, and are probably more for the parents than the babies.

We would if the schedule worked out, but i don't think we will until late spring. They start at 6m at our rec center. We went swimming a few weeks ago for my toddler's birthday and she loved it.

We have a new centre opening up in a month, just a few blocks away from us. I'm actually planning on going to their welcome centre this week to find out about infant lessons. I think it's really just an intro to water. I want to do it, but in all honestly, it's just for something different to do with DS.

DH didn't really care either way until he realised how much fun DS has kicking and splashing in the tub. Now he wants me to take DS, but again, it's just for something fun to do.

Oh ok...I feel better now.. For some reason I was just imagining LO being under water and swallowing a lot of chlorinated water  ;(. I guess it really would be just intro to water. My DS would love that since he loves water and baths...

Oh gosh no! Some programs you can dip baby if you feel comfortable, they use a trick where you blow in LO's face first and it causes them to hold their breath, but mostly it's just play in the water. You sing songs like motor boat, count dunk splash rubber ducks, older babies or young toddlers will blow bubbles. I think ours is even called "swim party with parents" or something.
Sidenote We use a bummis Swimmi reuseable swim diaper and I love it. I can also, unfortunately, vouch that they will contain a swim poo.

We did these lessons at the Y with our first and it was a blast.  If we can swing it we might do it in the spring.  If not, we'll probably wait until the summer.

My h is starting them next month with Anj at the Y. I, myself, am not a fan of water. I've brought her into the pool before. She seems ok.

We go twice a week... one evening "class" that DH does with her (they "learn" front floats, back floats, and just general fun in the water) and I take her to baby and me water aerobics, where she's in a floatie.

She loves the water, and it's totally worth it at this age.  We've been going since she was 4 months and just loves it.

I registered DD for swimming lessons starting in January. I'm pretty sure she'll like it, as she loves the bath. Her favorite part is when we pour water on her head!

A few years ago DH's other DD was taking swimming lessons and at the same time there was a class with babies. They just played games and looked to be having a lot of fun.

We're all signed up for lessons at the Y in January. The Baby Seals class starts at 6m.  DS has a free membership there, and we took him yesterday for his first "free swim" ( 2nd time in a pool). He loves the water!

We just used a Gro-Via shell as his swim diaper under his suit with no issues so far :)
