Registry Etiquette.

I have had two people offer to throw me two separate showers. I tried to combine them at first but the large number of people (both my husband and I have extremely large families) made it more logical to have two separate ones. I am not very keen on asking people for things which makes baby showers slightly awkward for me but both of our families are extremely excited to celebrate our sweet baby girl as it has been a difficult road to get to this point.

My question is do you guys feel that it is appropriate to register in two different places? We don't have a lot of things that we really need for our baby except that we are planning on cloth diapering so I set up a registry on the cloth diapering sight that we are planning on getting our supplies from but I came to the realization that most of these items are not that fun for people to buy and also that if you buy more than one thing can very quickly become expensive. Another issue is that I only have about 20-25 items on the list and between the two showers approximately 50 guests. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to also register at somewhere like Target where guests would be able to possibly purchase more "exciting" things as well as it being cheaper? Would it be a good idea to only use on registry for each baby shower or nicer to give options? Which one would seem less gift grabby? Sorry for the long post I am probably over thinking this but I appreciate your opinions.

I do think you're overthinking it.

It's very common to register in 2 places.  I wouldn't go much higher than that and you might not want many duplicates on the lists.  I'd give people both places for the showers...otherwise, they'll hear that you're registered at Target and wondered why they weren't told that.

For my wedding, I registered at 2 different places.

We registered at two different places for price point and convenience of guests. It's perfectly fine. Just don't put the same items on different registries.

I had one shower and registered at two different places. I just made sure they both had lower priced items and higher priced ones....which we ended up buying the more expensive items before the shower anyway so the expensive ones didn't matter in the end. For our shower, most people shopped at the store closest to their home, which was the Target we registered at. The other place was BRU, but that is about a 20min drive for everyone.

I don't think there is a problem with registering at two places.  Hopefully people will go to the diaper site and buy there but it is nice for you to have a physical store for people to shop at (many do not like to on-line shop).  I would make sure to register for enough items at different price points.  It's not hard to rack up 50 items...by duplicating some (sheets, bibs, burp cloths, sippy cups, etc).

Yeah- overthinking a tad!  2 or even 3 places is fine.  Remember- it's a wish list.  A registry doesn't require anyone to buy anything, spend more than they want, or buy from a certain store.

I wouldn't bat an eye at multiple registries for a bridal or a baby shower.

I have double registered as well. I originally registered at BRU but, I found so many things much cheaper at Target it was worth it to create a whole new registry.

I'm going to cloth diaper as well, and I found that Target actually carries the larger more name brand cloth diapers and accessories online, so you can stick some cloth diaper stuff on the Target registry as well.

While I didn't get any of the cloth diaper stuff I registered for, I think people seeing it on the registry stopped them from buying me a pack of disposable diapers or wipes which I saw done at my sister's shower.

I registered at both BRU and Amazon, because there were some specific brands of things I wanted that BRU doesn't carry. As PP said, just don't put the same item on the registry at multiple places.

I'm starting my registry early, July birth month, but I am planning on registering at 2 places. For weddings, the etiquette was max 3 places. Agreeing with PPs, the important thing is having a variety of price points.

I registered at a lot of different places, pretty much any place that had baby stuff and had registries. I did this mainly b/c a lot of places send out coupons so you can get any remaining items on your registry. I only shared with shower guests the Target, BRU, and Amazon registries. But honestly, very little was bought off of them. We too are planning on cloth diapering and I registered at a couple of those places so I could keep track of what I wanted/needed. But only 1 friend got us CD stuff on our registry and another got us some super cute ones from Etsy. Be prepared to buy most of that stuff yourself. The plus side is Target carries some CD brands (Thirsties!!!) online so you can always use gift cards from there. Amazon is also a good one b/c it's got CD stuff and then "normal" things, too. I put notations on my Amazon registry if I knew something was cheaper somewhere else.

We registered in two places for one shower. We registered at a big box store that was in town and another big box store for people from outlying areas that lived closer to the bigger cities that had both stores. We just made sure to register for the same things on both that we needed several of (bottles, sleepers, socks, etc.) and then tried to balance the bigger stuff (swing at one store, saucer at another).

Honestly, a registry is a guide for people that want to use it. It was great for groups that wanted to go together to get us a bigger, more expensive item to understand our taste but a lot of people just got what they found useful or what struck them as cute at the store. :) I really liked that one of the stores sent us a "completion" discount about a month before baby was born. It was like 20% items on our own registry which was a big help on the breast pump!
