Do you cut out Coffee?

Good Morning ladies,

I am 3 DPO in my first TWW!  I only drink coffee during the week when I get to work.  About a year ago I switched to half caffine and I drink about 2 cups.  I drink water or milk the rest of the day.  Is this a 'safe' ammount or should I cut it out all together, and switch to decalf?  It really won't be a big deal other than I think I will have to sneak it past my co worker as real coffee ;)

How many of you cut out all caffine in the TWW or all together while TTC?  Thank you for any advice!!

I tried cutting out caffeine when I was KU with DD. Didn't work, so I just cut back on my intake of it. My advice would be like for drinking in this instance, though. Drink til it's pink!

I have cut back on coffee, but have not cut it out altogether. I have one cup of coffee maybe 2 or 3 times a week tops. One cup of coffee per day isn't really going to affect TTC though.

I don't cut back on coffee. When I was pregnant with DS, I cut out coffee only so I could have diet mountain dew. I drank 2 cans of DMD everyday. The doctor said that was fine.

I stopped coffee altogether when we were TTC DS and then didn't drink it at all until the 3rd tri when I started getting cravings for iced coffee.  That being said, I'm in the boat that anything (legal) is fine in moderation.  If you have a hard time cutting it out completely, then a cup a day is said to be okay.  You could always slowly wean to decaf.

I usually stick to one cup, but not because of TWW, more because I still am not accustomed to more caffeine than that after my last pregnancy DS is 17 months old!

I was told when I was pregnant that the amount of caffeine in up to 2 cups of coffee a day is safe, but it was recommended to me to stick with just one cup a day in order to "save room" for incidental caffeine, such as that in chocolate, etc, that I might not think about.

No. I only drink one cup in the morning usually, so I don't even think I'll cut that out completely when I'm pregnant.

The artificial sweetners in that crap are way worse than caffeine. And then there is the sodium.

There is no "l" in decaf. However, there is caffeine in decaf. Decaf =/= caffeine free. You can drink caffeine while pregnant. Keep it to a reasonable amount as excess is bad for anyone.

I've reduced my overall espresso consumption (it was a bit out of control), but won't make any 'dramatic' changes to my caffeine intake pre-BFP.

Edit: Clarification

When I was pregnant the first time my OB said 200 milligrams of caffeine per day was safe, which is the equivalent of 2 x 8 oz cups of coffee. Personally, coffee didn't sound appealing during much of my pregnancy, especially the first tri so I cut back substantially. I don't plan on cutting it out now while trying to conceive or completely when pregnant. I did cut out Starbucks coffee and lattes completely when pregnant because their coffee has more caffeine.

thanks for asking this questions as ive been wondering the same thing! my guess would be it's like anything else in your TWW (drinking alcohol, other unhealthy things you shouldn't do while pregnant) so drink till it's pink!

ive never been KU so i dont have any personal advice but my coffee intake is a Serious Problem, i have no idea how i could ever cut back!

No. I only drink 1-2 cups per day (Newmans Own water processed decaf) so I'm not worried about it.

ETA (I know that decaf still has caffeine in it. I actually just love the taste of this coffee. If I drink coffee outside of the house, I drink caffeinated.)

2 cans isn't terrible, considering I know some that do a 6 pack a day at least. And at least you are counteracting it with some water, which many don't do.

I make lattes with 2 espresso pods every morning. In my 2WW I make them with 1 decaf pod and 1 regular pod... and I stop green tea.

I'm not sure what I'll do if/when I get pregnant...  hopefully I'll have an aversion to it, otherwise I don't think I could ever cut out coffee 100%. ;)

I've cut back on coffee and caffeine in general while TTC. When pregnant I will most likely drink one cup of coffee in the morning and avoid caffeine the rest of the day.

I only switched to decaf when I found out I was pregnant with DD. Then at about 7 months I became addicted to Diet Coke. That probably wasn't the greatest but DD is fine. haha

I usually drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day, 1 if I'm having cherry coke.  I've tried to wean myself off and drinking tea with lower levels of caffeine.

I've thought about cutting back slightly, and more importantly upping my water intake.

I drank about a cup of coffee a day all throughout my pregnancy... based on the guidelines from ACOG, who suggest that under 200 mg of caffeine daily does not increase risk of m/c or preterm labor.

DD is happy and healthy. I say do what you are comfortable with, but caffeine in moderation shouldn't be a problem!

I usually always drink decaf now... switched over a couple months before TTC.  I just wanted to make that change (which was hard..).  I still drink pop every once in a while, and usually on or after CD1 I'll get a full caf drink at starbucks just because usually I'm having a crappy morning and it makes me feel better. Smile

I probably shouldn't even be responding because I don't drink coffee normally, but I just wanted to say I agree with this. I think most people will say it's totally fine to have coffee, but in moderation. And after KU you can definitely still have it! But maybe stick to about one cup a day rather than 5-6 like some people would normally do!
