WWYD

I went to school with a girl named Hadley 12-13 years ago. Ever since then I have always loved the name. A couple years ago when DH and I were discussing the possibility of children and were talking about names I brought it up and he loved it. So our girl name has always been Hadley Rae, middle name after my grandfather Ray. So when we found out we were pregnant I started looking on this board and I realized that Hadley is now a "trendy" name and on the rise. I always liked it bc I had never heard it before and thought it was rare.

Now I dont know what to do. We have been tossing around other names bc I don't want her to have a "trendy" name. But we cannot agree on anything else. DH even calls her Hadley when he talks to her at night.

Other names I like are Shelby, Savannah, Mila, Lillian, Esme(pre Twilight) and Everly . But DH has axed them all. He is pretty set on Hadley.

Would you ladies change the name you have had picked out for years if it all the sudden became trendy when you finally wanted to use it?

You love the name and always have.  Your DH is already calling her Hadley, so it sounds like that's already her name :)  My DD is Madison, which is a popular name and I don't care b/c MH and I both love it!  FWIW, don't like the other names you picked out (sorry!)

This happened with a name DH and I had planned on using for a future girl for years, and now it's super trendy. It has stopped me from wanting to use it. You'll just have to decide how important it is to you that she not have a trendy name. I think if you both love it and it has meaning to you, you should still use it...unless it's always going to bother you that she has a trendy name. I guess just try to think about what you would regret more - not using a name you love, or naming her something trendy.

Hadley Rae is a beautiful name! :)

Hadley is on the rise, but I don't think that it's too trendy. It seems like your husband is quite attached to the name. If you're still in love with it, too... I wouldn't change the name.

Honestly?  Yes.  That might not be a popular opinion on this board (I really don't know), but I just can't stand the idea of my kid having a trendy/time-stamped name.  But, other people don't feel so strongly about it.  Only you can say if it will bother you to the point of moving on from the name.

I do think Hadley is trendy and I don't care for it at all.  However, it's worlds better than some other trendy ones out there (Kinley, Kaylee, etc).

I absolutely love Hadley.  It's mostly a guilty pleasure name for me, but I have it in mind as a serious contender for a future DD's middle name.

While I do agree it has a trendy-ish sound to it,  if you love it-- you love it.  Also, trendy doesn't necessarily mean popular-- it was ranked 178 in 2011- so it was by no means uber popular.

I agree with all of this.

Based on the SSA list, it looks as though Hadley has jumped from 921 in 2000, around when you probably first heard it, to 178 in 2011.  That's quite a jump, and usually indicates that a name is trendy.  But if it's a name you both agree on and love, maybe you can just say screw it and go with it anyway.

If you both love it as much as it seems, go for it. Hadley is not nearly as trendy as a lot of other names out there (like 900 Hadley's born last year (just cracking the top 200 list), whereas there were upwards of 11,000 Madisons in one year at it's height. That's a significant difference).

It's not my personal style, so in any scenario I wouldn't go with it. But since you two are both so attached to it, go for it.

We're very attached to the name Aiden regardless of its trendyness, name her what you love.  You might regret it if you don't.

If you both love the name, then go for it.  Trendy isn't necessarily a bad thing.  If it really bothers you, what about moving Hadley to the middle name spot?

I really love Mila from your list.  What about Mila Hadley?

Hubby and I had Amelia picked out for a long time. Now it's super trendy apparently and very popular. Oh well, it's gonna be our daughter's name. :) If it means something to you and you love it, go with it.

I love the name Hadley as well and it's been one of our top girl names for years.  I noticed that it has been gaining in popularity but we might still use it.  If I were you, I'd just go with it.

Thanks for the feedback ladies!!! I think we will still toss around names for another month or so and if nothing tops Hadley, we will go with it!

I am not a fan of Hadley (although I really like the nn Haddie) and know a fair share of them under the age of 2. That being said, I'd still go with it if I were you. It's hard enough finding a name that both spouses equally like and it sounds like LO is already Hadley in your minds... and hearts. DS1 has what this board considers a trendy name and it fits him to a T. Always has and likely always will.

I would go for it. If you love it and it feels right, then it sounds like a winner. And even though it is rising in popularity, it isn't like, top 10 trendy or anything.
