How's everyone coping?

I saw some discussion about Fridays shootings.  How is everyone here holding up?  How are your kiddos?

ugh, its about 45 mins from my house :( I can't think about it or read anything about it without crying. my boys are too young to understand what happened. not sure if SD knows or not. she is only 6 so I hope BM doesn't tell her, but it might be brought up at school. SD is out today (sick again) but I doubt today will be the only day it is talked about.

I've been crying on and off since Friday. I just barely got DS off to school and DD to parents' day out before falling apart.

Thank god for DS's principal--she posted on Facebook that she's gone to each classroom at least twice today and that all the kids are doing okay.

I just can't even...

DS is okay. I finally told him on Saturday when I realized that he might find out on Monday at school and I'd rather have him hear it from me. He keeps asking why. I don't have the answers.

I can not even deal with all the FB postings. From rants about gun control to people posting all the pics and names of victims, I'm avoiding it altogether.

We are leaving Thursday to pick up the kids Friday for Christmas break. I can hardly wait to get my turn to hug those munchkins.

My friends DS' first grade teacher talked about it because some kids were visibly concerned. I am anxious today.

My SDs school said nothing until today.  I finally e-mailed and got some info on what they're doing/not doing.  I feel like I'm going crazy though.

SD hadn't heard about it when we picked her up Friday.  We gave her a simplified version of events and told her to ask a grown-up if she had questions, not her friends.  We told her she's safe and in an emergency to listen to the adult in the room.

It makes me cry to think about it though.

I can't stop crying. It keeps sneaking up on me. I just can't imagine how that town will ever heal. There is basically no more kindergarten. One little girl survived in her class of 16. How will she live having been through this? That's not something most adults could move on from. I just can't stop thinking about it : those sweet little babies.

We did not discuss it with the kids this weekend. They did not know about it. Our local children's hospital released a document that our school district also emailed out (so I got it from both via email) that specifically said that it was not in the best interest to discuss it with elementary school or middle school students at all unless they found out from another source. So that is what we are doing. If DD comes home today, we will and learned of it at school, we will discuss it then.

This exactly. SS asked about it, I gave a very PG version to him. I was the only one around, I figured my H and BM could explain further if they felt the need. I passed the buck. I'm just.... I really have no words. The more crap I see about it the more angry I get.

We've been leaving the TV off. I cry every time I hear something about it. DS is out of school now until Jan and he hasn't asked about it. I'm not sure he knows. I don't plan on talking to him about it unless he asks.

That's very interesting. Hopefully the kids don't hear anything about it. I think, at their ages, it's easier for them not to know about it and not to get scared.
