First coldtalk me down

My triplets were born at 31 weeks. For the past ten weeks I have been frantic about keeping them on lockdown. No one comes over without showering and washing hands constantly. Sunday my youngest girl gets a squeaky raspy voice. I call the dr todayjust to reassure myself that it's ok. They have reflux and colic both of which I read can cause raspy cries. The dr says she has a cold and not to worry. How do you not worry?! I'm clearly a FTM, but I tried so hard to keep my home germ free and I feel I failed majorly. Any and all advice is welcome. Anyone have good humidifier recommendations?

Ok, take a deep breath!

Now that that is done, you are reacting pretty normally for any FTM, especially one of preemies.  It will probably be ok if your pedi isn't worried about it.  (DS had a couple of colds last year, and I panicked every time.  Every time we got through it fine.  We are on the tail end of his first this season, and I'm much more chill about it.)  The big things to watch out for are fever and difficulty breathing.  If she's breathing alright (for a baby with a cold), that is positive, and without a fever is positive, too.

Try not to beat yourself up about a few ailments.  They will find their way into your home, unfortunately.  Your H or you might bring them home from work or a store (or a visitor); they might get them from a trip to the pedi.  Unfortunately, we cannot keep them in bubbles as much as we want to.  It sounds to me like you are doing a really great job of keeping germs at bay, and that is all you can do: your best.

We have a Vicks humidifier, but I can't think of the name of it off the top of my head.  We got it at BRU; it is white plastic with a blue vaporizer part.  We also angled DS's mattress in his crib to help the mucous drain.  It is tough having a sick preemie.  T&Ps!  GL!

Thank you. I forgot the details in my panic. She doesn't have a fever, she isn't breathing fasther color seems normal. The raspy voice, occasional sneeze and maybe sleeping a little longer are the only changes I see. This parenthood gig is no joke! What do you do when the mommy panics and had difficulty breathing? Lol. I'm kidding. I'll stay cool for my girls.

Deep breaths!  I reacted the same way with her first cold.  If your pedi is saying not to worry, you should be ok - just keep an eye on things, suction her nose, and try to elevate her when she sleeps to help her breathe easier.  I totally know what you mean about trying to keep things germ free as much as possible.  This time of year is so tricky, and sometimes even with the best efforts a germ will sneak in.  Hopefully your LO is feeling better very soon, and your other 2 kiddos can avoid it!  ::hugs::
