embie questions

Will they give me pictures of them?  I asked dh to ask them when they call but he looked at me like I was crazy.  I heard that the embryoligist sings to them in the morning, which makes me happy because I feel bad for them all alone in there.  Like I wish I could visit them and give them some words of encouragement.  Which might make me a crazy person.  Will they call every day with an update?  I am just all excited now that things are happening!

Every RE's office is different but at least with mine, I get a report the morning after my ER and thats it until I go for transfer. My RE's office doesn't give pictures either. They said there were published studies that the flash from the camera would shock the embryos and cause them to arrest. Don't shoot the messenger on that one, thats just what they told me :)

We got a picture of our little one and it looked like Charlie Brown's face drawn on the embie. Hence, he was referred to as "charlie" throughout the transfer :) I expect if they don't do a photo proactively, you could ask them to! We also took a camera as they showed our embie being drawn into the catheter on the TV screen (a view of the embryologist's microscope) and we took a video of that process, and a few pix of the screen as it switched back and forth between the microscope and ultrasound. We felt very included and like we were a part of the whole process! It took 3 tries to get our LO to 'let go' - s/he was very sticky! - so I got to see it a few times. The worst was how bad I had to pee, which was a bummer because I didn't feel totally present as I was sooooo uncomfortable.

They called the day after ER to tell me the # retrieved and fertilized (we had an egg donor); then called again on Day 3 to say we'd do a Day 5 transfer...so Day 2 and 4, no news. I guess on the 'even' days they just let them rest.

Hope that helps! :) Good luck!!!

The only report I got was my fert report the morning after ER. I was updated the morning of my transfer by the doc as to how well they did since the fert report.

My clinic didn't give out pics, but they did show them on a tv when we went in for the transfer. DH could take a pic of the embies on the screen. Unfortunately it turned out blurry :(

They did give us a "report card" about our embies after the transfer-- how many we put back, how many froze-- and they gave us the dish the embies were in. I'm not sure what to do with that... Have it bronzed!?!? lol!!!

I didn't get a "progress report" every day-but I so wish I could have.  I felt very bad for them being alone too :(  At my ET I got a picture of the embies, a picture of my uterus where they implanted them and the top of the petri dish that they were in :) I loved it!  I sent pictures of them to family/friends that know we are doing ivf!

My office was kinda vague about how they were doing, I think I had to call and ask. They did call to inform me of a 5 day transfer instead of three. Although I again had to ask about how many made it to freeze because they didn't offer the info up. I got a pic of my "nugget" and a pic once it was placed in my ute.

With my RE we got pics of our embies at each ET to show us the development/quality and for us to keep. I believe there is also a copy of the embies in my file taken before freezing. It doesn't hurt to ask.

2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

That is a very weird explanation... I'm doing research with cell cultures and have to do a lot of photos. As far as I know, no microscopy camera has a "flash". They just redirect the image to a video recorder and the photo is just a frozen image. There's no difference between that and normal microscopy. I would ask them again if I were you.

Anyway, when I asked for photos our RE also looked at me as if I was an alien. After some insistence they gave me photos of each embie before transfer. I guess they think it's too much work and unnecessary but I just love looking at them :

It looks like it really varies.  I got a picture of the embryos, an ultrasound picture once they were transferred, and the top of the petri dish (make me wonder if Trixie and I might be at the same doctor -- I am pretty sentimental, but even I wouldn't save the lid of the dish where the babies grew!).

I was also worried about my embryos between ER and ET.  My husband and I joked about our doctor tucking them in at night and also how we hoped they wouldn't grow up spoiled since they are starting life in the rich part of town.

Great!  Now I am hoping to get a Petri dish and a picture!  I could totally turn that into a Christmas ornament!

That's genius. Now I'm totally going to be the crazy patient who asks for the lid to the petri dish my embies grew in. How awkward will that be if they don't offer? Lol.

I'm not sure if my clinic does pics normally but I'll definitely be asking for one. Heck, I always went back to see Dh's sperm before each IUI. I can't imagine not getting at least a picture. If I could I'd want to be back there looking at them myself but I'm sure they wouldn't allow that.

Positive HPT at 5dp5dt. Beta #1 6dp5dt - 72. Beta #2 8dp5dt - 285. Beta #3 10dp5dt - 793. Both babies have strong beautiful heartbeats! Baby B miscarried at 7 weeks. Baby A is holding on through miscarrying her twin, sub-chorionic hematoma, and complete placenta previa. Stick, baby, stick!
