Blue Cheese Dressing

Hi all!

I make my own blue cheese dressing, but my dr. Told me I can't have soft cheeses...does anyone know if I CAN have it as long as its pasteurized???

If the cheese is made from pasteurized milk, it is fine. The worry with cheeses is Listeria, but pasteurization kills the bacteria.

Even though pregnant women are more susceptible to Listeria than others, listeriosis is still really rare — much rarer than salmonella or E. coli.

I say eat it. And if you're really worried, bring it to a low boil and then eat it.

HmmHmm, I've been reading bleu cheese regularly. Not the dressing, just the cheese. Guess I better see if it's pasteurized or I might be giving it to some lucky bastard! I love that sh*t .... this breaks my heart.

Most cheese sold in the US is pasteurized so you should be fine. You can always check the label

This.  I have a big 'ol wedge of Brie in the fridge that I'm diving into on Christmas Eve.  Same with sushi, since it's flash frozen you're fine to eat it...even raw.  You're waaaaaaay more likely to get sick from a burger or chicken.  A lot of the things on the "don't eat" lists are there because of old wives tales or because prior to modern pasteurization etc...it wasn't nearly as safe.
