Hoping baby will stay put!

So two nights ago at 33 weeks, I ended up in L&D because I was dehydrated from a stomach virus and having lower back pain.  I had no idea I was in preterm labor!  When the doc checked my cervix, I was 75% effaced and 2 cm dilated. She said she could feel the baby's head when she checked my cervix. They put me on a mag drip (yuck!) and they gave me 2 steroid shots to help develop baby's lungs. They kept me for 2 nights because his heart rate was all over the place. I'm now home on bed rest for a few weeks. I'm just curious if anybody has had a similar situation as mine and how far into the pregnancy you made it! They kept hinting that baby may come very soon and that if he can just hold out a week that would be great because the steroids should have his lungs developed enough by then. I can feel him pressed up against by pelvic floor constantly

I'm sorry you're dealing with this! It's so scary. :-(

My only advice/contribution is that I had my son at 34w, 5d and he was very healthy with great lungs. He was in the NICU for 13 days to learn to eat a little better, but was otherwise absolutely fine. Preemies at this stage of the game are typically just "growers and feeders." That being said, I hope he stays put for another few weeks! Good luck!

That's so scary! My friend went into pre-term labor at 30-31 weeks and was given the steroid shot and mag drip before she was sent home on bed rest. The baby was born a couple days shy of 35 weeks. She stayed in NICU for awhile, but is definitely a normal 2-year old now.

Hoping you are hanging in there!  If you haven't already, check out the High Risk board - there will likely some ladies who have experienced the same thing.  There is also a bedrest checkin that has been helping me a lot!

I'm in a similar situation as you but due to pre-e instead of PTL.  Hoping we can keep these babies cooking for awhile longer!

At 33 weeks, I was in pre-term labor due to dehydration and stress from a car accident. Luckily, LO's heartbeat was steady. They gave me medicine to stop the contractions and hooked me up to an IV to hydrate me (I was up all night running to the bathroom to pee). I was closed when I went in, but they could feel a difference when they re-checked later. I don't remember the numbers, it was 3 years ago and that whole day is a blur for me. I was just kept overnight.

They sent me home with instructions to take it easy and stay hydrated.

I didn't have any serious contractions as long as I paid attention to my body and chugged water like mad. I didn't go on bedrest.

My water broke prematurely at 36w4d, and I had a healthy baby the next day. If my water hadn't broken, it's likely my body would not have started labor for awhile yet. I didn't even have contractions I could feel until my water broke and when I went in after about 1-2 hours after my water broke (waiting for babysitters), I was barely 3cm.

I am in the same situation. I was dx with IC at 20 weeks with a shortened cervix thinned to 1.5 cm. I had an emergent cerclage done. This past friday I had to stay the night in Labor and delivery. I'm 1 cm dilated, 80% effaced, and he is at 0 station. My contractions were very irregular and stopped on their own. I was sent home the following day and my modified bedrest (been on that for 14 weeks now) is now strict bedrest! All I can say good luck and take it a day at a time. Keep us updated!

My situation was different (I pPROMd at 33w5d and then went into labor), but I have a very happy and healthy 2.5 y/o.  :-)  34w is a great milestone and the last big one before getting to term.  It's even better that you got the steroid shots for his lungs.

As pp said, late term preemies are typically feeders and growers.  The suck/swallow/breathe reflex only starts at 34w, so it might take a bit to get that started, but it shouldn't be too bad.

My DD came home at 35w gestational age and did quite well.  The NICU can be a rollercoaster and scary, but the prognosis for late term preemies is pretty good.

I would ask on 0-3 and maybe even on the preemie board.

GL and I hope your LO keeps cooking!!
