Dresser-as-changing table

Hi all,

Rather than buying a changing table, we want to just get a dresser we can use the top of as a changing table.  I have a 4-sided contoured changing pad that attaches to a dresser top and just need the dresser.  Does anyone have suggestions?  It obviously has to be low enough to use as a changing table.  After that, it needs to be gender neutral, safe (drawers can't be pulled fully out), and durable enough to last beyond babyhood.  Oh, and inexpensive.  :)  Any suggestions?

 Thanks!

We bought a solid wood vintage dresser on Craigslist. My husband is re-finishing it. As for the drawers, you could just get those child proof latches for it.

If you're near an Ikea, they may have some options that may work for you.

The ikea hemmes is pretty highly recommended on these boards. I have one and am happy with it.

I just bought a Koppang dresser from IKEA because they didn't have the two-drawer Hemnes chest (for which there is also a matching changing table attachment) available at my closest store. The dimensions are almost the same as the Hemnes, except the Koppang is two inches shorter. It cost a whopping $100.

I also bought an Ikea dresser. The height is perfect (I am 5'10).

We got dd's dresser at buy buy baby and use it as a changer. Works great. Really I think any dresser that is lateral and not tall would work fine.dh and I are both tall, fwiw

Exactly what I was thinking! I'm thinking after the holidays if I'm not too uncomfortable/exhausted I'm going up there one more time. We weren't planning on a dresser thinking the drawers of the attached changing table would be enough but they're not :(

I know that everyone on these boards loves to recommend the Hemnes dresser, and I'm not going to lie I love it (I have the 8 drawer dresser and 3 drawer chest in my master bedroom). I'm 5'2" and it is an incredibly tall dresser. I think I would be uncomfortable changing my 17 month old on there. Just my honest opinion.

For DD I got her entire bedroom set from Pottery Barn Kids, but this time around my budget isn't as generous so I'm going to be getting the Malm dresser from Ikea which is about 8 inches shorter than the Hemnes. When I first saw it I wasn't too crazy about it because it is very plain but I got some inspiration from Pinterest and I'm doing an "Ikea Hack" to jazz it up and make it look prettier. I'm actually really excited about it. The best part about it is the price! Even with the wood detailing I'm adding to it it is still going to cost much less than any other dresser I've seen out there.
