Dorothy

Oddly enough its a name both my husband agree we like BUT we can't imagine giving such an "old lady name" to a little girl and we both strongly dislike the nn's Dot/Dottie.

I recently met a 20 something "Dorothy" and i had to resist the urge o badger her about her name

 what say you bnb, on the name Dorothy?

I really hate it.  Dot and Dottie make me cringe and Dorothy just doesn't flow or sound nice to me.

I know it's an old lady name, but it isn't one that I think should have a comeback.  Lucky for everyone, I don't make the rules :-)

I really like it, and it's my grandmother's name, so it is on the table for us.

If you don't like Dot, you can also consider Dora (my gpa always called by gma Dora).

Another possibility is Dorothea nn Dora or Thea.

It's a very grown up name.  I like it but I think it's more because I adore DH's great-aunt Dot.

I can barely say the full name without hearing Antie Em's voice calling Dorothy during the tornado scene.

I like it....but for a 12 year old from Kansas or an old lady who smells like mothballs and roses. I do not like it in the real life sense.

But I actually do like the nn Dottie.

I like Dorothy, I wouldn't mind the NN Dot. I think the old fashioned names are so much better then the trendy names. You can always pair it with a more fun/exciting middle name...

I've always had a soft spot for it - it's my grandmother's name. She goes by Dot/Dottie. I would have loved to honor her with it, but she has always hated her name and her nickname, so we went with her middle name, Rosalie. She actually told me to never name any child Dorothy. 

And since my DD is on a Wizard of Oz kick, I can't get that connection out of my head!

Man, I wish I could like it but I just can't.  I do love lots of old classic names, but this one just doesn't do it for me.  Maybe it's because the only Dorothy I know goes by Dot and is in her 70s.
