Swelling

I just left my doctor's office and forgot to ask a random question about swelling during the third trimester.

When do most women begin to swell in their face, hands, legs, etc? I don't think I'm at that point yet because other than my belly and chest, you can't tell much of a difference from now and prepregnancy. Also, is it related to high blood pressure at all? I'm just curious what your experiences have been.

With DS, the only swelling I experienced was in the hospital from IV fluids when I delivered him.  With this pregnancy so far (35 weeks) I haven't experienced any swelling either.  I consider myself very lucky as a few friends of mine suffered from horrible swelling. Like most things in pregnancy, I think it depends on the person.

I was a swollen beast from my 2nd trimester on. It was terrible. I drank so much water, and nothing helped. The worst, though, was 2 weeks PP, because I had a c-section and was on IVs for so long.

No, not all swelling has to do with your bp.  Sometimes pregnancy just causes some women to swell, particularly if it's warm or you've been on your feet for a while.  Not all women swell during pregnancy, so you may never have this happen to you.  I tend to swell in my ankles (I'm 37wks), but if I put my feet up and drink water they go back to normal.

I was told that swelling in the face, and swelling to the point of it leaving an indention after you touch it could indicate something more serious where I need to contact my doctor.

My ankles have swollen...but that is it for me. My hands have been fine...I can still wear all my rings.  I think any 'swelling' of my face/neck has just been chubbiness...not actual swelling   lol

I'm almost 35 weeks and haven't had any swelling either. My hands are a little puffy today, but probably just because I had a lot of salt yesterday.

last time I was pg in the summer and swollen from 20 weeks on, it was terrible.  This time, no real swelling yet although I sometimes feel it in my ankles at the end of a busy day.  No blood pressure issues here.

I haven't really had any swelling other than on our babymoon at the beginning of September.  I have had some borderline high BP at appointments though it always goes down by the end.  It probably helps that I work at a computer all day and am able to put my feet up, though my hands have been fine too (no problem wearing my rings).

I have been warned by STM+ that swelling may show up at the very end, but so far, so good!

I never really had any swelling while pregnant with DD#1, and since I didn't get an IV at her birth, I didn't have any swelling PP. I also don't really have any swelling with this pregnancy, so far. I've always had really low BP, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

My feet and ankles have been swollen for the past couple of weeks now which is normal. My blood pressure is normal also. My OB said that if there's significant swelling in the face, hands, anywhere else then to call them.

Some women experience far more swelling than others and while it can be a BP issue it isn't always. I'm almost 38 weeks and have no swelling except when I get warm on a long walk but my feet and hands have always swelled in that situation so I can't really blame baby.

Both pregnancies I have started swelling in early 2nd tri. Last time it was at 18 weeks. My ankles and calves just poofed up. This time around it was maybe 24 weeks.

ETA: I only get it below the waist. I can still wear all my rings and people have told me my face is actually looking leaner. My BP has always been fine.

Nothing yet.  My fingers seems a little swollen today because it's freaking hot here (yay, TX!)  I think at the VERY end last time I had trouble getting my rings on and my feet were swollen at then end of the day.  BP was always low though.  The worst was after IVs - I hate the pics of us leaving the hospital because even my face was swollen.

I have just gotten to the point where my wedding band is snug and leaves a print on my finger.  And at the end of the day my ankles and feet are a bit swollen too. Im happy that it is just in my fingers and feet/ankles, no BP issues either btw. Drink plenty of water to help combat the swell.

My ankles and feet swell, but that's because I am on them all day on a concrete floor =( Other than that, my face has filled out more, and I have what my husband likes to call "Angelina Jolie Lips"
