Kern91, It's standard practice at my OB clinic to do a weekly NST (non stress test..they hook you up to a heart rate and movement monitor and watch LOs heart beat as she moves) and BPP (an ultrasound where they check her movement, watch for breathing, check fluid levels), but it probably depends on your practice. They didn't start mine till 37 weeks, and it wasn't something they discussed with me ahead of time, they just started doing them at my 37 week appt. The thing is, GD creates the possibility that your placenta can deteriorate a little sooner than a non GD patient, so my office is just watching baby to make sure she's doing well...if you're wondering if you should have these, discuss them with your OB..they may be in your future and it just hasn't come up yet.
