One with a nn, one without?

So random I know but still, looking to see what others think... 

We picked our daughter's name - Allison - knowing full well we didn't like Allie/Alli/Ally as a nickname.  DH and I don't use Ally, her name is Allison and that is what we call her.  Her nickname is Monkey right now!

On the flip side, if we have a boy the name is already picked out.  Robert Anthony.  Since that is a pretty heavy name for a little boy, we would call him Robby (or Robbie if DH gets his way with spelling).

Is it strange that we would use a nickname for one child but not the other?

(I know this is a hypothetical but still.....)

No, of course that isn't weird, you're thinking to much. My kids are Tyler NN Ty and Holly, never occurred to me.

You are so over-thinking this.

I go by a nickname.  My sister goes by her full name.  No one has ever commented or thought it was weird.  Names are names.

Not weird at all.  You like Robbie; you dislike the nicknames for Allison.

FWIW, my name is Melissa, and I have NEVER gone by Missy.  My parents didn't like the nickname, and they put the smack-down early for the use of that nickname.  If people try to use it, I usually don't even respond.

SIL's name is Allison, too. She has never used a NN.

I think that it's fine to use a NN for one child only.

Also, I agree with your husband. I prefer Robbie.

I don't think it's odd at all.  I have cousins that call their kids Steven, Brian and Tony (Full Name/Full Name/Nick Name).  Just know that if when she's older Allison's friends call her Allie, you can't prevent that.

DH and I are expecting our thrid and we pick our two boys names so that they wouldn't have NN now if this one is a little girl we are very sure we are goin to name her Vivian. DH said he will call her Viv growing up. I hate the NN but whatever. But i don't think its werid at all. You could also just call him Robert and then later on down the road let him, and your DD pick their own NN.

I agree with PP. Definately over thinking this. We also have one child with a NN and one without and its never been a problem. I do like Robbie for the NN best.

I think it is fine. DS1 goes almost exclusively by a NN, while we almost always use DS2's full name.

I don't think it is weird.  My sister and I grew up without nicknames, but my brother (Gordon) has always gone by Gordie (when he was a kid) or Gord (teen/adult).  He only uses his full name in professional settings, and it would never occur to me to call him Gordon.

Likewise, MH is Joshua, but is frequently called Josh.  His brother, Andrew, has always been called Andrew, not Andy or Drew.

not weird. my brother is Cameron, he goes by Cam, I am Ainsley and although I do get called Ains sometimes I go by Ainsley.
