CD and diaper rash! - please share your experience

We use disposalbe diapers but some of you may remember I was debating trying CD. However DH wasn't too thrilled about it thinking there would be no time to wash etc and I just gave up.

It wasn't a big deal as DD never had diaper rash and the expense of diapers didn't make too huge of an impact....

But, ever since DD started teething she's been getting diaper rash. Sometimes to the point of bleeding and I feel horrible :( I've heard some moms had a similar experience and thought it was due to teething but once they switched to cloth diapers the diaper rash was gone even with teething.

Do you, based on your experience, find this to be true?

I'm going to get at least a 2-pack of bum genius diapers and give it a try! I would just like to hear your take on this specifically regarding diaper rash!

Thanks so much!

DS has ridiculous diaper rash when he's teething.  I've spoken to the pedi about it, and he said it's normal for a lot of babies.  A combo of the hormones associate with teething and the excessive amounts of drool that they swallow.

Cloth diapers won't change any of that.  If you want to try them, have at it.  But I know a ton of moms who use cloth diapers and they encounter the same teething diaper rash as everyone else.

I use CDs, and I've actually switched to sposies for a couple days because we're out of CD safe diaper cream.  He has a pretty bad bleeding rash from a combo of too many bananas and cutting his front teeth.  It's just until we can go get some more CD safe cream.

In general, he doesn't have many rashes though.  He gets them if he goes too long between diaper changes (he never complains about being wet), but otherwise he doesn't get them much.

I would say switch if the rash happens often, then your LO might have a sensitivity to the disposable diapers.

If this is just an off and on occurance, it's normal.

I cloth diaper, we get rashes.  It usually happens when her BM is runny or I don't catch it right away.

Try a different rash cream.  Or try some naked time.  Plenty of air will help a lot with her rash.

And 2 cloth diapers are going to be a pain to wash, I like my loads to be at least 8-10 diapers or the machine gets off balance.

Thanks ladies! Zoe doesn't have a rash all the time. It's while teething and like PP said, if she has a poopy diaper that doesn't get changed right away. This past rash has been the worse one yet. And it lasted about 3 days. Getting much better already. We use butt paste and that helps really well! I don't know why I feel like so many moms say once they switched the diaper rash was gone. :/

I guess it was more of a situation where baby had a rash all the time, which would be just sensitivity to disposables. That would make more sense.

I just feel so bad when DD gets them. Last time she was crying so much when I'd change her b/c it was bleeding and very painful. So I just wanted to try anything that would keep that from happening.

And I figured I'd buy 2 "diaper shells" for now to see if I like it. I thought you didn't have to wash those every time, just the insert....

Thanks again for your input! Much appreciated!

My first had horrible diaper rash when teething.  It was sometimes her only sign she was teething.  My second has cut 3 teeth now and there hasn't been a single diaper rash yet.  So sometimes it just depends on the baby.  We CD and did with our first too and have changed nothing in our wash routine or anything so I would say it doesn't have much to do with the diapers.

anytime we get a CD rash (from teething or otherwise) we use coconut oil. No rash has lasted longer than 24 hours with it being applied every change. DS got rashes weather it was from CD's or disposable just the cause was different so the treatment changes.

Typically we get rashes when DS has eaten something hot or for our rule of thumb- something that DH shouldn't eat but makes anyway.

My LO gets a really bad diaper rash when she is teething...no matter what diapers we use. I have found that the Aveeno oatmeal bath really helps, we also use A&D ointment on the rash and it clears up in just a day!!!
