Putting baby down drowsy...

So I was wondering if anyone had tips for putting baby to sleep drowsy?  My LO is five weeks and I always try to put her down when her eyes start shutting, but she just wiggles and wakes herself up fully. I let her lay there and hope she'll pass out, but it never happens.  Do I just keep trying and it'll click?  I don't know how much longer I can walk and bounce her to sleep, my back hates me...I don't let her CIO, just hoping to get good sleep habits early.

I keep as much physical contact as possible with DD, to the point where Im nearly halfway in the bassinet.I put my hand on his chest, and/or his face and very very slowly break contact.

When you lay her down, try leaning over the crib and rubbing her forehead and down her temple, or rubbing her hair. Something to keep soothing her after you lay her down ya know? Then once she's asleep, stop. We did this with LO and it clicked with him around 3 weeks. Now we can lay him down laughing and giggling and he'll be asleep in 5 minutes.

Are you swaddling? Make sure your swaddle is nice and tight and that will probably help to. We don't swaddle anymore, but that helped a lot when it came to that early stage.

5 weeks is early for that. I would wait until she's at least a few months old, and closer to being able to self-soothe.

This.  We did the rubbing, and it worked great when he was fighting sleep .  Also, the swaddling.  We didn't start swaddling until he was a couple weeks old.  It made a huge difference to putting him to bed.  After we started swaddling I usually only had to go back in once to replace his paci and he was out.

Ditto on the swaddling suggestion if you aren't doing that already.  I also do the "hand on chest" trick as well.  Good luck!

We've been lucky with our LO - on going to sleep (staying asleep is another story - but she goes to sleep like a champ :) ) - I put her down drowsy (and have since we started this around 3 weeks) - paci and swaddle (I make sure she has all her "tools" - and then if she is fussing I put my hand on her head (cup it and maybe stroke her temple with my thumb) - she is soothed by this normally - if not I get really close to her face and shhhhhh - and then slowly back off as she falls asleep.. SLOWLY

Now I do let her fuss for a few mins on her own - but only because I know she has her tools and she is able to fall asleep on her own.. if it goes above a fuss I tend to her :)  (but again she's almost 3 months)

In my opinion, at 5 weeks old you can't really do anything except get her to sleep when she can, wherever she can. That age is far too young to try and develop any kind of habits because she just doesn't understand yet. It is good to put babies down drowsy and every parent hears that advice but not this young.

I agree with previous suggestions but she's too young to sleep train or self soothe yet, so don't feel bad if you have to wait until she's completely sleeping on you instead of just drowsy before you put her down.

Do you swaddle?

I have had luck with being able to put baby down awake but drowsy due to the swaddle IMO.  I will admit that it was a lot faster for me to start doing that with DS than DD.  I think with the 1st there's a lot of over thought.  With #2 I just did it matter of fact right from the start and was amazed at how easy it actually was!  The hand on the chest jiggle worked for us.

Good luck, sleep is always a hot topic

our LO does this at nap time when he is fighting his sleep. I just rock him and sing in a low voice. Maybe try holding her for just a few extra minutes. you know like to get her to the part where she is actually sleeping. That may  ahelp with when you lay her down and then if she starts to wiggle, if you do paci, give her a paci and put your hand on her chest. Swaddling works wonder.
