George Michael

Too Wham! ?

Michael was my father's name, I might be ready to use it finally, but unfortunately when paired with a lot of names we like it becomes a celebrity name. (George is my g-pa and will likely be our boy pick.)

When you write it like that just first and middle name it immediately reminds me of "I want your sex.."  lol but if you were to write George Michael Smith it wouldn't be as immediate.  Another option, using the first initial(s) or similar names... George Micah or Micah George.

Very Wham.  Reading the title alone I started signing "Faith."

My first thought was Arrested Development!

Oh, yeah and then Wham.

I think it's fine to use if you want, they are two classic names. And we don't always use our mns.

if the middle name didnt have meaning behind it, id suggest move on. George Michael is WHAM! to one generation and Arrested Development to the next.

BUT...its not as if he would introduce himself as George Michael Smith 24/7. it would be on paper work, birth announcement, etc. So i would say not to let that stop you. how many middle names of the people around you do YOU know??

My dad's name is George Michael Lastname. He doesn't really get flack or jokes IRL. He primarily goes by Michael/Mike though. Plus, I don't think George Michael is too relevant this generation.

Just so glad no one said "Who's George Michael"  I would have had to hobble off to the retirement home.

You might get some comments about either Wham or Arrested Development.  But both names are meaningful to you, so I say do it.  I do like pp's suggestion of George Micah though (although I'm not sure that would deter comments still).

My first thought was George Michael Bluth. Who is awesome, but a new season of Arrested Development is coming out next year and they're making a movie too, and Arrested Development fans are numerous and loyal, so I can't see that association going away.

Second thought was the singer, and between the drug issues and the sex stuff he's been arrested for it is not a great namesake for me.

I couldn't do it, personally.

I saw the title and in my head started singing. 'Last Christmas...I gave you my heart but the very next day you gave it away.'

I like George.

How about...?

George Abram

George Reuben

George Ezekiel

George Enoch

ETA: Just realised that both names have significant meaning for you. What about if you give two middle names? George XXXXX Michael LastName.

I couldn't either. "Father Figure" is good stuff, but I just couldn't name my kid that. It would be like if I wanted to name my kid Michael, and Jackson had significance, I couldn't name my child Michael Jackson.

I don't know this pop culture reference.  I'm a music and tv snob.  I did see the post that he did Last Christmas which is about my least favorite Christmas song ever.

I think it's totally fine.  I doubt kids would remotely get it.  And when they're two totally normal and mainstream and common names I never guess that they're after a celebrity etc.  I mean, I could know a Catholic and her name be Mary and I don't think she's named after a saint.  Now if someone had the name Hezekiah, I would think of a Biblical prophet.  Maybe that's just me though.

I'm certainly old enough to appreciate George Michael's music, however most people don't go by their first/middle combo that much, and most kids won't get the reference. Go for it. Family names win.

Yup, Arrested Development for sure!

That being said, if you aren't going to use both names constantly and just call him by his fn, I think that's totally fine. =)

I couldn't do it.

Me either. I'd just start singing Wake Me Up Before You Go Go 6 million times a day.  Plus the guy has been repeatedly arrested for sexual bathroom things...ew.

This is not to say I don't adore George Michael, just wouldn't give his name to my kid.

I'm not sure why, but some of these comments had me rolling, esp. the one about "Wake me up before you GoGo". I couldn't do it either. Still lol-ing.

I thought of Arrested Development, too! Every time I hear George Michael I automatically finish it with "Bluth."

It just reminds me of the movie Office Space where the guy's name is "Michael Bolton" and he's always annoyed by people's comments. Lol
