Getting closer... Possible girl's name, at last!

Thoughts on...

Evelyn Mackinley V_____ (last name is two syllables, if that helps)?

DH is traditional, and for him, Evelyn was apparently a bit of a stretch.  Even though he was the one that suggested it (?).  That middle name has some significance as there's a family name contained within.  I know there's a couple of 'y's in there, it seems I can't help but be drawn to that sound!

I also proposed Everleigh because I think it looks and sounds lovely, but DH says it's too 'out there' for him, and he immediately pointed out that people would confuse it for Beverley.  Sigh.

To be honest I can't ever imagine us settling on a name, but I suppose this is a start, right?

Good start and it will help you rule out others in the process by comparing them to this one.  Try it on, say it outloud, get a "feel" for it then go from there.

We took two names into L&D for DS and named him after he was born.  It just felt right.

Thanks!

I meant to add, I'm not sure what kind of nicknames you can derive from Evelyn.  Eva?  Or is that too much of a stretch?  Eve makes me think of the rapper and/or feminine hygiene products (no offense to any Eves out there, apparently I can associate almost any name with something negative which is why this whole process is so tough).

I like Evelyn.  Nice name.

I really dislike Mackinley.  It's a misspelling of McKinley, which is either a dead president or a mountain.  I know you say there is a family named contained "within" so why not just use the actual family name?

Evelyn is lovely.

You don't have to decide now.  We took 3 names to the hospital with us-- my fave, his fave and our compromise name.  DD was officially named about 6 hours after she was born.

Are you looking for an E name or just something traditional?

I wasn't previously familiar with McKinley (and actually found the Mackinley spelling on a baby name website), so at least I've learned something here today!

And we're not stuck on an 'E' name per se..  but it can't be too out-in-left-field, apparently.  I don't know.. I just thought Evelyn sounded classic without being too traditional or overused.  It's on the short list now, anyway!

I like your name choice, especially the middle name if it has significance to you. Everleigh was my top choice last time around but we had to toss it since it almost rhymes with our last name.

I strongly dislike Everleigh.

Evelyn Mackinley is a nice name. I don't really care for the MN, but it has special meaning to you. :)

We are naming our little girl Evelyn.  We plan on using the nn Evey (pronounced E-V).  I am biased, but I definitely prefer Evelyn over Everleigh.  Your mn is nms, but with family significance, it works and flows fine.

I love Evelyn.  I am partial to "old lady" names, and that one has some family significance to me.  Evie ("E-V") makes an adorable nickname.  Unfortunately, DH hates it.

Like some PP's I don't love the middle name, but like it better spelled McKinley.  It doesn't have a bad sound, just not very feminine IMO.

Thanks for all the input, it's appreciated!  Funny that Mackinley is not appealing to anyone other than me...  originally I had hoped to use it as a first name.  I guess it's just as well that DH disagreed with me on that, lol.
