Rock n plays

Does anyone find their LO doesn't sleep comfortable in their rock n play? DS has reflux and sleeps amazing on his side across the boppy in my lap. I even got a good 3 hour stretch in his car seat. At night, I put him in the rock n play and he only sleeps an hour and a half max. Last night he woke up at four and stayed up until 1 pm and would not sleep. He want even super fussy just wouldn't go down and eats every hour. Again I am stuck with him on my lap.

For what it's worth h hates being swaddled and won't take a paci. I would love some sleep!

Ps due to his reflux we hold him up after every feeding for 20 minutes. Between that and him eating I have no time to sleep between his feeds. I am borderline delirious! And not comfortable falling asleep with him on my lap on the couch.

My LO loves her rock n play. When we first brought her home she hated her pack n play, so we drug out the rock n play and she loves it and sleeps very good in it.

So sorry that you're having such a hard time!  I totally get the 'delirious' part.  When you say he hates being swaddled, what exactly does he do?  Our son hates being swaddled as well but we do it anyway; otherwise we'll NEVER get any sleep.  He will scream and cry when we swaddle him, but then I nurse him right away so he's usually asleep at the end of his feed.  When we put him down in the crib, he will still startle/wake himself up and grunts/struggles against the swaddle.  Most of the time, he's tired/drowsy enough that he falls back asleep after grunting/struggling for several minutes.

if I swaddle him he will sleep through it at first and then wake up crying. He loves to stretch and his startle reflexes wake him up. It's a lose lose.

DD also doesn't sleep so great in her RNP. She did the first few nights and we thought it was the answer to our prayers (she also has reflux). But now we're lucky is we get an hour of peace when she's in it now. After about an hour she starts grunting like crazy (I think it's a combination of the reflux and her having to poop) and I think she wakes herself up with the grunting.  I think the issues is more with the having to poop as whenever I pick her up there will be a small explosion in the diaper area (haha!) and then she calms down. She hates to sleep lying down though because of the reflux.

Not sure if this is helpful...just wanted to let you know you're not alone.  GL! I hope you get some sleep! (I feel your pain...by the time I feed LO, change her and then pump, the cycle starts all over. What I wouldn't give for 2 or more consecutive hours of sleep!).

Have you tried a white noise machine? Also,I just posted about this on my BM board but the RnP works better on a hard surface so we put it on a piece of plywood in our bedroom (we have carpet). This way DD actually rocks herself back to sleep when she fusses.

I don't know if you tried this, you probably have but D only sleeps if he is swaddled with his arms up. He likes to stretch his arms and suckle at his hands. If we swaddle him arms down he throws a fit. If we do his arms up he sleeps for about 3.5 hours at a time.

I sometimes just tuck a bamboo swaddle around L. He can still stretch his arms and sometimes he does hit himself but the swaddle cushions it/makes it not as forceful so he doesn't wake up. I check on him every few mins to make sure he doesn't pull it above his face, but that's not a big deal bc we live in a small apt.

I know what you mean about delirious! This is awful.

How many different pacifiers have you tried?

Have you tried a long sock filled with rice and heated in the microwave (30 seconds... make sure it's not too hot) and put next to him?

And I echo the white noise. Try it from a computer or smartphone, then buy a machine if it works! We have the sleep sheep.

Our DS doesn't really sleep magically in the RnP either. I had SUCH high hopes for it after reading so many rave reviews. I guess mine is w/in the very small percentage that don't love it. He currently only does long stretches of sleep in his Snug-a-Bunny swing. Now *that's* magical for us. Big Smile

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I do use the sleep sheep. I have the regular, travel and an iPod of white noise. I also have an actual recording oft womb. I thought I was so prepared lol!

Last night I waited until he was asleep and tightly wrapped him in an aa blanket so his arms were on his chest. It still didn't buy me anymore time but the grunting was less. He still freaked out when he woke up and his arms were tight to him. Once I let them free he fell right back asleep and woke himself up 15 minutes later with flailing arms again. I just keep telling myself this gets better.

So sorry you're going through this!  I hope you can get some decent sleep for yourself soon.

Both my kids love(d) the Rock N Play. It was really hard to get my son to transition to his crib.  On the bright side, you won't have to worry about that though at least!  I would keep trying the swaddle.  DD will not sleep unless she is swaddled.
