Renal pelviectasis (enlarged kidney) quesion

Hi ladies,

Swinging over from the 2nd trimester to see if anyone had this finding during their a/s and if you've had a follow up ultrasound yet? My a/s was yesterday and all looks great, but baby has mild rental pelviectasis (4.3mm) in his/her left kidney. I'm not too concerned, but am of course looking for any other stories. I didn't have any quad screening or an NT scan and I know this can be a very weak marker for Downs, but my doctor didn't seem concerned. My DS had cysts on his brain and she seemed more concerned than this and he turned out just fine.

My son has this.  Discovered at 24 weeks and my OB said it usually goes down on it's on.  It didn't and was still present at birth (36 weeks) so we were sent to a urologist at a week old.  The doctor was wonderful!  They had to do an x-ray and catheter (which was the worst part to me)  to get a better view and the doctor said it's a minor thing and usually develops with age.  He went for a check up at 6 months and it still hadn't resolved completely, but was on the right track.  He goes back for another check up in April.

I was SO worried because I saw it could be a marker for Downs, but when I asked, they said it's only considered a marker for Downs if there are at least 3 other markers present.  The dilated kidney in itself if not a marker for Downs.

Our DS2 was diagnosed with hydronephrosis which is a similar kidney issue. In our situation it is not resolving and getting worse in the left kidney so we are having to get ultrasounds every 6 weeks. The doctor said that it could still resolve after birth but we will have to be seen by the urologist and he will more than likely need antibiotics to prevent infection. There is a slim chance that surgery might be necessary but that is rarely the case.
