New here

Hi All -

I've been reading some of the boards trying to figure out which is the correct one for me to "join" and I think this would be it.

A little background: my husband and I got married in February. He's 37 and I'm 29. We finally decided that there was no time like the present to try and discontinued taking birth control in September. Three days later, my younger sister, who hasn't followed the traditional "path" to this place in life is pregnant. I was sad that I wouldn't be able to be the first one to tell my parents that they were going to be grandparents.... but I know this is purely me being selfish.

I still don't think I have had one normal period. The first 2 months I had maybe 1 day of spotting (during the second month). Finally, during the third I think AF came... but it wasnt like any of the cycles that I have had while taking BC. When my first AF came it was what would have been 86 days (a little longer than 3 - 28 day cycles) since my last actual cycle.. which as a result of taking BC. I'm hopeful this last month that I actually ovulated, not sure I did the first two months.

I have wasted so many pregnancy tests (every 2 weeks) per MD instructions... and I have had 3 friends tell me "You know you could be pregnant... I never even got my period after stopping the pill - first try!" Two of which have gotten preggo since we started trying.

We haven't been taking temperatures or ovulations tests (especially since I hadnn't had a period to count from) because we wanted to keep it stress free at first. Initially we had decided that if by 6 months we hadn't gotten preggo I would start tracking etc. This is in February, however, I find myself feeling the urge to get preggo grow with each month. I keep trying to tell myself that it also doesn't matter who else is pregnant and how easy or difficult it was for them. I feel like I am jealous of those who got pregnant easily and know I will feel guilty when/if I get pregnant before my friends who literally have been trying for years... does anyone else feel this way?

If my period is actually regular (I have no idea) - I should either get it Monday (the 24th!) or I will take a test on the 25th... What a fun secret Christmas present that could be for me and the hubby. I keep wanting to take a test now, but I know it would be a waste... and trust me, I have wasted so many tests over the past 3 months.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Stefanie

You're in the right place. Welcome and good luck!

I would recommend reading the newbie link at the top of the page and signing up for fertility friend on their website. That is what most women on the board use to chart their temps, and they have tutorials that explain temping and charting your CM.

I feel I'm in a very similar position as you!  Went off BCP in August, TTC since September, my first cycle was 50 days, second was 65 days :( and now I'm 3 weeks into my 3rd cycle.  I was one who initially didn't want to do the whole charting thing either, but I STRONGLY recommend it! I'm reading the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility", & just started charting at the end of my last cycle (I do this on fertilityfriend.com), & honestly it takes just a couple minutes out of my day, but I feel like I'm able to take back some control by doing this because at least I'm gathering info about my body.  Since I just started charting recently, I'm not sure if I'm actually ovulating or not yet, but this cycle will tell me since I'm charting now!  After that, since it'll have been 6 months I'll be talking with my doctor if I'm not ovulating, but at least I'll have some useful info I can give her.  I was in your exact same position my first 2 cycles, with the anxiety, the many pregnancy tests, the wondering if I "might be pregnant"...was so hard, but now with charting I feel like I know exactly what's going on in my body...I honestly wish I had started sooner, I think it actually makes me feel more calm about the whole process.  Good luck to you! ;)

I second all the suggestions to start charting now. It's never too early to learn what your body is doing. Welcome and good luck!

Exactly. I started after my first month off BCPs with no sign of AF and it's given me some sense of control.

It can take some time for your body to get back to normal. I can totally understand the frustration, I've been dealing with it since the end of July as well and have had one friend get KU already who started trying after we did. It is what it is, you just have to do what you can to take care of yourself and to learn what your body is doing.

Good luck!

Welcome to the board!  I am new too.  I know most posters will tell you to start charting now, but I say if you want to keep it more casual for the first 6 months (as you said), go for it!  It wouldn't hurt though to sign up for Fertility Friend and at least look at the tutorials.
