OMG I am dreading this!!! I don't do pads AT ALL! so very uncomfortable. Do they actually make any that ARE comfortable?? How long does the heavy bleeding last for???

It's different for everyone.  Mine started easing up after about three weeks, but I still needed moderately absorbent pads after that.

When it comes to this you just have to face the music.  Putting anything "all up in" is seriously bad juju.  Then again, your junk isn't going to feel great with or without a gigantopad if you deliver vaginally, so think of discomfort as being the name of the game for a bit.

This. I bled pretty heavily the first 2 weeks, then bled moderately for a couple more weeks, before it started to disappear. It's definitely a necessity.

ditto it's different for everyone, but trust me, you'll live. It's not the end of the world. I bled heavy for about 7 days and then lightly for about another week and a half.

I only bled heavily for about 3 days, then it was like a mild period for a couple days and then spotting for about a week.  But I got off easy on this one, I think.  When I was on 0-3 with DS, I remember girls who were still bleeding at their 6 week PP visit.  Also, I tended to start bleeding again if I overdid in the weeks following.

Trust me, you'll be thankful for the giant pads when the time comes lol!

Oh yes, the BIG pads. I remember my eyes bugging out when I checked into the hospital and saw the bag waiting for me in the hospital room bathroom. They were giant, but I was very thankful. I had a c-section, which I hoped would mean the bleeding would be less, but no such luck. Sorry, but I poured out blood for the first few days and had lots of gushes everytime I stood up or walked around. It definitely approved after the first 2 weeks or so and was like a mild period for several more weeks before spotting. But it did come back in full force if I over did it. I've been through it before, and I'm dreading it this time, too. But like PP said, you'll live.

I wound up with a c-section and before they sewed me up, it sounded like they were "vacuming" me. I had minimal post-partum bleeding. A regular pad was just fine for me. Of course, other c-section mamas said that they had the same amount of pp bleeding as a vaginal delivery would have.

I know for my heavier days I used Always in the yellow wrapper. I can never remember what size it is, just that it's wrapped in yellow plastic. I would imagine that you could use a thinner pad if you just changed it more often.

I had a c-section and I can't remember how much I bled, I don't remember it being particularly heavy for very long...

Yeah, no getting around it unfortunately.  They are definitely necessary.  I bled heavily for at least a few weeks.

2 years later, I still can't use tampons again.

After pushing a baby out, uncomfortable pads will be the least of your problems.

I need pads for about 2 weeks.

I only needed the BIG hospital pads while I was in the hospital. Once I got home I used a "normal" overnight pad (I got the ultra thin kind). I probably didn't have to user an overnight, but I didn't want blood to get on my clothes, so I went with the extra protection, lol.

I honestly don't remember how long the bleeding lasted. Maybe 4 weeks? By the end it was just light/spotting.

I was so doped out of my mind that I didn't feel anything, trust me after 22 hours of labor (w/ a failed epidural) and having my Dr stick his hands up in me trying to get DS out, a little suction was NBD.

I had a c-section and I bled pretty heavy for about a week and a half.  After that it was pretty minor and just spotty for about 2-3 weeks.

LOL - you feel nothing - trust me - I too got "vacuumed". I think I bled very little in the hospital. Once I got home I never used a pad.

I only wore the BIG pads while in the hospital. When I went home I used Always Infinity. The heaviest absorbancy is relatively thin. I hate pads too, but there's no alternative. You're not going to use a tampon if that's what you're thinking? Mainly because you don't want anything in there for six weeks but also because, to be honest, I think it would just fall out... Everyone is different and every delivery is different. With my first I bled heavily for a few weeks, then it lightened up. With my second, I only bled heavily for a few days. With both though, I still needed at least a pantyliner for 6 full weeks. It's annoying, but not as bad as you're thinking it's going to be.

As far as post-partum stuff goes, the discomfort of having to use pads for a while is going to be way down your list of things to worry about.  Really, don't get yourself worked up about this!

Meh. I don't even really remember that aspect after birth. You will be too enamored with your baby, frustrated with BFing, or wondering WTF you are doing to really care.

I honestly can't remember (it was only 2.5 yrs ago), but I think it was for a couple weeks.  It must have not been that bad if it isn't clear in my mind.  The pads aren't that bad.  I prefer the Always Ultralong Overnight.  I think their pretty absorbent and should work after the initial heavy heavy bleeding.

This. I hate pads too but it wasn't too bad. I bled heavily for less than two weeks but was still able to use the thin overnight pads, especially since it was NBD to change it often as I was already up with baby. The pads that are available now aren't nearly as bulky as the ones I remember from my teenage years.

I actually can't use tampons at all so I'm used to pads. Regular Always work fine for me. I bled heavily for 2 weeks, then moderately for another, the last week was mostly spotting. 5 weeks in all.

I bled like crazy.  I had to buy more of the big pads; ran out of the ones I took from the hospital.  I had retained placenta, though.  I bled heavily for 3 weeks, got the placenta removed, and then bled a little more for about a week and a half.  Then it was fineish.

My postpartum bleeding lasted 8 weeks. I just used the ultra thin always pads in the overnight absorbency. They are comfortable enough. Honestly, in those first few months your lady bits are going to feel uncomfortable and gross. Especially if you have stitches [if you tear or have an episiotomy].

Oh, I was solely a tampon person prior to pregnancy, but trust me, don't dread the pads.

Dread the first postpartum pooping experience.  Dread the feeling that your insides are about to fall out of you. Dread the pain that requires you to sit on an inflatable donut for two weeks.

It sounds crazy but really its way worse in your mind than it ends up being in reality. Much like labor, you make it work.

Ditto that at the end of labor you will not even care...  I forgot about the pads..  I had a c/s & didn't bleed that much - I was actually surprised I bled at all -but a c/s makes no difference - you still bleed.

I'll be having this little one at the end of June - the thought of thick big pads & prob. being hot (for sure hot in July) = gross  =(

wish for the best!  maybe it won't be bad for you.
