DD has a cold :( **Update**

She has for about 12 days now. Fever only one day. Playing fine mostly. But that cough. I called the doc today. The NP, not our doc, can see her tomorrow. Tomorrow is the only day it isn't going to be bad driving conditions this week so glad they could fit us in.

I'm hoping she is fine and just takes after me. I have colds that last forever and always have a bad cough. I've been running her humidifier at night and at naps too when I remember to fill it. But not really helping much anymore.

Bummer!  It's so sad when their congestion hangs around for so long.  Have you tried steaming up the bathroom and sitting in there for awhile?

I hadn't but only because I shower when she naps. We have an electric hot water heater so it is only on certain times of the day to help save money. I could just stick a baby gate in the little alcove where the toilet, trash can, etc are and stick her in the room with me when I shower though.

Good luck! We had one for that long and took him in. They told us everything we were doing was everything we could do. But they did tell us he had an ear infection. Which he wasn't pulling at his ears a lot. Then she put him on antibiotics which as soon as it started draining his ear it drained everything and defiantly helped with his cold! Colds are no fun! Have you tried Johnson & Johnson's bath stuff? It's in a blueish bottle and has vapors that smell like vicks.

No. It didn't get this bad until this week and I've been snowed in since Sunday. I will look for it next time I'm at Walmart though. Might be good to keep on hand.

Awww..I hope that your dd gets better soon.  No fun!  My dd has had a 14 day cold now and it was only a few days ago (I posted about it) that I took her in and she had an ear infection too.  No cough though, like your dd.  I hope that it is only a long lasting cold and no more for your dd.  Sounds like you've got some useful tips from the other mommas.  I just might look into the J&J bath stuff myself.  What I find helpful with the congestion is vicks vaporub on the bottoms of my dd's feet and chest.  She can breathe easy and fine then and had an easier time of taking her bottle.  For the first week or more of her cold I'd rub this on her several times a day, and sometimes at night to help ease her breathing. I'd put it on her feet and then put either socks on, or slip her toes back in her footed sleeper.

I was going to do the Vick's on the feet thing but everything I read said not to use adult Vick's on babies due to the camphor. It can cause more respiratory issues and seizures in some. She may have fine, she may not have been. Didn't want to risk it in this weather. And since it has been so stormy (8"+ of snow then sleet and ice), I haven't been able to get to the store either. That is added to my list of things to keep in the house for the next cold. :)

I love the J&J green stuff. It smells really good! I'm weird with smells, so if it smells good, I will use GOBS of it. Also, get the nasal spray for babies. it loosens any dried snot, and you can also do a bulb aspirator (sparingly because it can irritate the nose after a while) so that nasal drip doesn't get into the ears. DD2 has a had a cold every month since she was 4 months, when she had RSV (she's in DC), so I know your pain. And they never just snap back like we do. It always lingers. It feels like I get a couple of days off from a cough before another springs up. I figure as long as she has no fever and has a normal appetite, she will be fine.

We do this with the baby Vicks and it works great. GL - I hope she feels better soon!

Update: The NP looked at her today. It really is just a cold. Lung sound fine, ears are mostly okay.

He said that he throat is really swollen and ear drum has a little swelling behind it but not bad. To give her Motrin morning and nigh for 1-2 days then just at night. If she's still sick Monday, call him back. He says that a lot of ear infections can be prevented by taking Motrin to stop the swelling. The swelling doesn't let the fluid drain. He says with his patients and his own kids, he has seen Motrin stop an ear infection from happening.

He also says she has that "my mouth hurts" look about her so to expect another tooth soon.
