For those of you with other kiddos

How did the pregnancy, weather wise, compare to having an April baby.  I loved being pregnant from July 2010-April 2011.  It was a particularly snowy winter, but I don't think I could have been pregnant during the summer.  I am not TTC for a while, but would be interested to hear some pros and cons of carrying a baby over a different time of the year.

I'm not much help because DS1 was born in March so not a big different.  Baby #3 is due in July though so I'm curious to see how it'll go.  My friends who have summer/fall babies loved that they could just wear dresses and flip flops all summer so m hoping that'll be the case for me too!

DS1 was a late June baby.  It wasn't a problem being pregnant during June, but I much more enjoyed having an April newborn than a June/July newborn b/c of the heat.  And, I feel like I basically missed the whole wonderful summer w/ DS1 b/c he was so little and I was still recovering from childbirth.  April was perfect b/c I was back to feeling good by the time the nice weather hit!

I'm in TX and there is no way I could go through a summer.  I planned my pg for Spring babies.

Friends who have been pg over the summer complain how miserable they are. I have a friend in the NE who had a Jan baby at home bc she couldn't get to the hospital in the snow/ice safely (they tried). If you have them in diffn't season you can spread out b-day celebrations. My kids are b-days are one day apart so they actually save me money in the beginning w/ joint parties. I'm sure when they are older they will want separate b-days. Because they are the same gender clothing is cheaper too.

Thanks for the responses!  Very interesting things to think about.  I guess the only thing I did not like about an April baby was it was too early for LO to wear sunblock, which was hard during the summer months.  I felt like she was suffocating during walks when I would put a swaddle over the top.

I used sunscreen on my April baby in the summer.  Here's the AAP recs on it.  Ok to use on exposed portions of the body in small amounts under 6 months of age.

Oh very interesting!  I remember when I went to my "mommy and me" group at the hospital after DD was born, this was a hotly contested issue.  I ended up shading her mostly, but the debates just made me paranoid.  Thanks for the info.

I felt like April was the perfect time to be due with a baby and that actually was one of the big reasons why we started TTC again when we did. We wanted the kids to be two years apart and wanted me to have a similarly-timed pregnancy since I loved the timing of the first so much and already had the maternity clothes, etc.

I like that pregnancy during this time keeps me warm in the winter, yet I don't have to worry about delivery in a snowstorm, and then I get to deliver before summer hits.

Plus, all of our family birthdays and special dates are within those two months, April-June, so we'll just knock everything out at once and then won't have to spend a bunch of money again until Christmas.

Re: sun cover-ups....I wasn't comfortable putting lotions on my son at such a young age, so I just kept a bunch of light Aden+Anais swaddle blankets with me and would drape those over him or over the stroller to block out the sun but still keep things breathable. I also limited our time in the direct sun and didn't go outside on really hot/muggy days, period. Btw, you can also buy stroller canopy extensions. I think a friend of mine got hers for under $30.
