When to start going out?

When did you start taking LO shopping and to restaurants? We went to eat last weekend and it was fine but I just feel like she is too young still. The restaurant was empty and it was fine and she did great but I'm not sure if it's too early. We live in Florida so it's warm and there are no weather issues to worry about with driving or being out.

I was taking my son out since he was 4 days old. I do most the shopping for the family. I try to make sure he's fed and content before going out to avoid him getting too fussy. I never have too much trouble unless I stay out too long and he gets hungry.

Get to know the places you want to go. Make sure you know where there's bathrooms with changing tables and places you're comfortable breastfeeding if that is how you're feeding. It's also helpful to bring plenty of diapers, wipes, feeding supplies and a change of clothes for your baby.

same here. i've probably been out more with this baby than our first but our first was born in a 2-3 foot blizzard so we were kind of forced to stay in.

We also live in Florida and I seem to be the opposite of most responders on the boards.  I asked this same question back around Thanksgiving and most people were taking their babies out pretty quickly.  I have pretty much kept my LO in for 2 1/2 months.  Not completely in... he goes for walks in the stroller and just outside too.  But we've avoided malls, restaurants, shopping centers etc.  I honestly have just felt more comfortable this way.  I did not want him to get sick early on and I didn't want to chance it.  Esp. since we are getting into cold and flu season.  Now with the holidays fast approaching, we will be taking him out to see friends and family and such.  We have slowly eased into it, and I'm happy with our decision.  (c:  I do know that if a baby is under a certain amount of weeks old and gets sick you have to take them straight to the hospital.  Can't remember the actual amount of weeks, but you might want to check.  That in itself freaked me out.

We've never waited to take our kids out and most were out and about their first week and definitely by their second week.

We started to take LO out around 3weeks. He is 6 weeks now and goes everywhere with me. I realized if he was going to catch something he would, when DH came home with an awful flu.. What can you do when the germs are in your house?

You can't live in a bubble.  The weather won't make her sick but if anyone enters your house who has been in contact with the outside world, that could.  And the germiest place you could possibly go, you've already gone - the pediatrician's office lol

I started taking lo out around 2 weeks. I couldn't do much before that due to severe tearing and I could not drive until then. A nurse suggested keeping her in the stroller with a blanket over so people can't look in at her. Be prepared to say no if people want to see or touch. I had a man yesterday keep trying to touch dd while she was in a ring sling. I kept moving away. It's so weird the way people think it's ok. 

With these precautions I really do enjoy taking dd out to do errands. She usually sleeps through them and I get a chance to get out.

I took LO out around 5 or 6 days old. Honestly the pedi's office is the dirtiest, most germ infested place, and that's where we spent most of our first 6 weeks due to colic and milk protein intollerance. I'm glad I didn't wait, I would've gone crazy. It's important to get out, I think.

I took DS to supermarket when he was just a few days' old, and to a restaurant when he was 1 week old.  We always go to the supermarket on weekday mornings, so it's pretty empty anyway.  As long as you don't let people get close to your LO, you'll be fine.

FWIW, it was SO MUCH easier to take DS to a restaurant when he was a brand newborn, cuz he just slept through it.  Now at 6wks, it is actually much harder to take him out to eat cuz he fusses a lot!  We tried to go out for lunch last weekend but we never made it through the restaurant's front door b/c he wouldn't stop crying.  Also, I'm not comfortable to NIP yet, so any outings are limited to a 2-hr window for now.
