My big brother is the 4th. None of the 4 men have gone by their true first name (Charles) except in super formal settings. I can not remember what my great grandfather went by for sure but my grandfather was Bud, my dad is Buddy, and my big brother is Chase. I know my big brother plans on passing it on also and he will call his son Charlie. My grandmother always says she thought my dad would lose "buddy" as he got older to sound more professional. Nope he is a highly educated dentist named Buddy. haha
My uncle and cousin go by Big ____ and Little_____. My cousin is now 21 and the only people that call him Little____ are family and close friends.
My FIL is Thomas and so is my husband and my FIL goes by Thomas and my husband goes by TJ. To make it crazier my husbands sister married a Thomas and he goes by Tom and his son is Thomas but goes by his middle name.
My husband and his father have different middle names and so does my BIL and nephew.
I like the way my dads family did it better in having nicknames and them all being different. No confusion.
My pet peeve is what my SIL and BIL did. Since the name is not a generation name of passed down fn and mn I think they should have just named my nephew what they call him and used Thomas as a mn.
If we have a son my husband doesn't want to pass on his first name but he does his middle name. Which I'm glad of since Thomas is SO over used through his whole family and I'm not a big fan of my kids having to go by anything but their given name. We already used Tommi for a little girl (though her name was planned before I met my husband) it ended up sounding like she was named after her dad. She even ended up with his initials which is pretty neat too.
