How long can it take for a positive pregnancy test?

Right now my period is two days late. I've always been regular but aside from last months 29 day cycle never really kept exact count.

I've taken pregnancy tests starting 4 days before I was expecting it. I'm still getting negatives but also no AF showing up.

I'm pretty sure the time we DTD was a day or two before I ovulated. Is it possible for the positive to take days or even weeks after you expect AF?  Some things I read online, say no way. I'd have the positive by now if it was. But I read other accounts that say opposite that it can take 3+ days after your due.

Anyone with similar experience? Im okay with NOT being pregnant and trying again next month.

I'm pretty sure the general consensus is to test once a week until either AF shows, you get a BFP, or you hit 60 days, after which you'd contact your doctor. That would suggest to me that it is possible to get a positive later.

Well, how do you know when you ovulated...?

If you're not temping or at the very least, using OPKs, then you may have ovulated later than you normally do and therefore your period will be later than normal.

Implantation typically occurs between 7-10 dpo and it can sometimes take a couple of days after that to get enough hormone to turn a test. If you know when you ovulated (which, if you're not charting your BBT, you don't), that can give you an idea of when to start testing.

See the newbie link (at the top if this page) for test accuracy by dpo.

All of this. Plus, if you don't know for sure when you ovulated you don't know for sure that you're late.

This. For people with clockwork cycles, there is still a first time for everyone to be slightly off. Odds are you did not ovulate as you usually do. So, from here, just take a test once a week until AF shows.
