FF Mamas: switching formulas

Hi ladies,

LO has lots of gas. He gets hiccups all the time, passes gas lots, and I can even hear it rumbling in his tummy. We've started using gripe water and it is helping relieve his pain tremendously but I can't help but think if we changed his formula it may help even more. Right now he's on Enfamil Newborn. So here's some questions...

 1. What formula did you use for your LO especially if he/she was really gassy and cried often because of it?

2. If you switched, did you do it gradually or all at once?

Thanks!

J was very constipated on Enfamil we switched to Enfamil Soy and she is doing better.  Because of her issues we did it all at once, it took a few days for everything to work out of her system.

1. We use Sam's Club Gentleease. It is fabulous. Half nutramigen and half cow's milk. That + gripe water = one happy Boo.

2. All at once. Doc said dump the normal and go with gentle. No problems, but they were both Sam's Club (Simply Right is what I think it is).

We used Enfamil Newborn for the first few weeks since that's what they had us supplementing with in the hospital. We noticed the gas and fussiness and a friend recommended Enfamil Gentlease. We switched all at once. We also started reflux meds and switched bottles at the same time so not sure what made the difference but it works!

1.  DS was horribly gassy.  We started with Enfamil, went to Gentlease which helped for a few months, then ultimately ended up with Gerber Good Start, by which point he'd been down to mostly BM and one formula bottle (as opposed to 25/75 formula in the beginning).  Some of it was probably just him getting bigger, but I think Gerber did help.

2. We mixed the 2 formulas for a few days before going with just the new one.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

Our pedi is not a fan of switching formulas unless there is an allergy issue . He feels that gas is just a normal part of being a baby and switching is often hard on their system. We have used Similac Advanced since birth and DD did outgrow the gas issues between 3 and 4 months.

Definitely talk to your pedi before switching.

We just flat out switched to Gentlease, then to the Target brand of it. Pedi was fine with that, and it helped a lot. GL!

Hi Chiwifey,

I am late to the party but I hope you have found a formula that is working better for your LO.  Enfamil worked great for my DD, my DS had some digestive issue's which stemmed from longterm use of an antibiotic & we had to put him on Nutramigen sp? it worked great but it was wicked expensive.  GL!
