Bath time frequency

Well I tried to make a poll and couldn't get it to work.  Curious how often you give your LO a bath.  I think we should do every night to establish a bedtime routine (bath, book, bottle, bed), DH thinks that is too much every other day is good with him.  She is almost 4 months.

We do every other night. Her skin gets pretty dry if I bathe her more often, even after lots of lotion!

We never did every night with DS. We have been bathing him every other night forever now, and he has never had a problem with getting to sleep on nights that we don't do baths. I think it actually works out better because they don't expect it every night. That way, when you have a function or something that makes a bath unmanageable, it doesn't throw them all out of whack.

When he was little we would bathe him every 2 to 3 days. Now that he is older we bathe him every night. He gets so dirty now. Ha!

We do three times a week. Any more than that and her skin gets too dry. I also agree with PP that making it an every night thing could lead to trouble when you have those inevitable nights when there is no time to do it.

Every couple of days. Kind of depends how much he's barfed on himself. He likes baths, so they are fun for us.

***Lurking Older SAIFer***

Tuesdays, Thursdays and either Sat or Sunday. I am sooooooo glad I did not start the whole nightly bath routine thing. I felt like a super bad mom because "everyone else was doin' it" 'round these parts.....

I can't imagine dragging that bath crap out every night for the last three years.

My kid was super easy with sleeping, though. Save yourself some time and sanity. If your child doesn't "need" it, do more stories or snuggles instead.

We do baths about twice a week, maybe three times. Just whenever she is dirty or we feel like it. We did not want a bedtime routine that made her NEED a bath every night.

We do every night for exactly the reason you cited. It is part of DD's bedtime routine. Once she was eating table food, it also helped us to fill the weird gap time between dinner and bed when DD was soooo tired and fussy. However, she doesn't have sensitive or dry skin at all and I know that's a consideration for a lot of people.

I think having the bath routine as part of bedtime really helped us when we dropped the bottle, because we left the other parts of the routine (bath, book, bed) in tact, so her biological cues that it's time to sleep were still very much in place. Good luck with whatever you decide!

ETA: Oh, and after reading replies, when we do skip bath time it doesn't seem to mess up bedtime. But she's never really fought us GOING to sleep. However staying asleep was a whole other ballgame....

It was at about five months that we started doing a bath every night as a part of the bedtime routine. Up until then we gave him a bath every few days. I think in your case there really is no right answer. You could do it either way.

We do 3 times a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday usually.  It doesn't seem to bother her bedtime routine either way, but she nurses to sleep (I know, I know, bad habit!)

We used to do every other night but now we bathe her every night because she gets so dirty at daycare! Also, she loves the bath and looks forward to it every night.

We usually do it every other day. Barrett's skin gets too dry when we do it daily.

After 3 years of infertility, our IVF miracle has arrived! Detailed IF and IVF info in my bio.

2-3x/week.  but usually try to rinse off diaper area daily.  on non bath days, we still do snuggle/story time or just lotion.

I think he'd have dry skin if we did it more often.

Up until about 9 months, we did bath time every day, after that we went to every other day as their skin was getting too dry.  When they were little it just became so routine but not alway's necessary.

TTC on our own for many years finally moved on to IF treatment, diagnosis for me, ovaries with PCO appearance, hypothyroidism, DH MFI, IUI 1-3 BFN moved on to IVF, IVF #1 BFP! No frosties :( B/G twins born 10/12/11. IVF #2 August 2012, BFP ended in cp :( FET November, BFFN. IVF #3 at CC.RM Antagonist low stim protocol with CCS testing, ER 4/23/13, 21R, 18M, 14F. 8 day 5 & 2 day 6 blasts biopsied & frozen. CCS results 4 normals 5AA, 5AB, 5AB, 5BB, 2 no result 5BB, 4BB. we've always done every other night w/DS. the only variation we have had since he's been older is if he gets particularly dirty playing outside in the dirt.
