An old high school friend named her son Ean and said "We loved the name Ian but didn't want idiots to mispronounce it and say eye-an. So we changed the spelling. No one is going to mispronounce it now."
All it needs is a B in front. Or an M. Or...you get the picture. I do not get IAN out of that.
Yeah, that's pretty bad.
However, I have a good friend named Ian who told me that I wouldn't believe how many times he gets it mispronounced as "eye-an." I thought that was pretty sad.
Yes, I have. It may look odd, but it's still legit.
Although I'm sure the person you're referring to might not know the origin.
