Mine is:

I am sick of hearing about CT every time I turn on the TV. The media needs to get out of there and let the families mourn and grieve in peace. They even said on the news Monday or Tuesday that they know the town wants them out of there, but feel they need to "act as a barrier" between the town and the rest of the world. Just leave! You don't need to try and cover every funeral and memorial service. The world doesn't need to know about these private events.

Generally, I don't like how we tend to baby older kids in today's society. Two incidents come to mind --

1) Our YMCA has a family locker room, but it is under construction. Yesterday I was in the womens' locker room and this boy came in with his mom...personally I thought he was too old to be in there and could have gotten changed by himself in the men's room. He was old enough that I didn't feel that comfortable in there naked from my shower.

2) I really give the side-eye to parents who stroll around their 5+ yr olds at the mall (or wherever). Kids that old (or even a good bit younger!) should be WALKING. (Yes, I realize my child is only 2 so maybe I'll "get it" when he gets older, but even as it is he walks almost all of the time. He is a runner so strollers can be good for containment but I also think I ought to suck it up and teach him better how to hold my hand so that he can walk in situations like that.)

How far and how long do expect those little legs to walk? I assume you're noticing this lately during marathon holiday shopping excursions? What if they're not feeling well and their parents have to get something done? Maybe they have a younger sibling and are just taking a rest in the stroller. I agree that 5 year olds should mostly walk, but you don't know all the circumstances.

This! I feel like the media is totally exploiting the victims of the tragedy.

When you got shiit to do and the place you are going to is busy a stroller is the way to go. My 3 year old and 2 year old love to walk everywhere, but they are SLOW. So in the stroller they go sometimes. In situations like Christmas shopping at a busy mall I don't have the time to have my two kids walk at a snails pace and I dont think it is the safest thing either. It has nothing to do with teaching them to hold hands, it simply is about accomplishing the task at hand and kerping them safe. Also for festivals, Disneyland, etc. the double BOB is what works best and probably will for a few years to come. I get tired from a day of shopping, imagine how a 5 year old or younger feels?

I am sick of these facebook pictures that say "Little Child: Dear God, why did you let this happen in our school?  God: I'm not allowed in your school."  I don't really know why this angers me so freaking much, but I think it's because it is putting the blame on everyone but the actual shooter.. like if we would pray in school or something, then we could have prevented this from happening.  Plus, if a little kid was actually able to talk to God and asked him why he let this happen, and he just said "well, I'm not allowed in public schools," he would kinda be a gigantic jerk.

And going along with the religious theme, I celebrate Christmas and I still prefer to say "Happy Holidays" if I don't know the person I am talking to. I get annoyed with people who think that is taking Jesus out of Christmas.  I have had people snap back at me recently with "no, it's MERRY CHRISTMAS, I don't care about being politically correct."  It's not about being politically correct, but my religious beliefs are all about being inclusive.

I'm crabby today.

I agree with Kat. My 4 year old hasn't used a stroller in well over a year. He has more energy than I do and I usually pull him out of the story kicking and screaming because he isn't ready to leave.

My UO is I think it is stupid to buy expensive clothes for children under 10. They are going to mess it up or get it dirty.
If you don't mind that and have the money, then go for it. However, if you are going to yell at your 4 year old for getting his 30 dollar shirt dirty, you should not buy expensive clothes.
I usually buy DS's clothes at target or walmart. I even buy some at consignment shops and salvation army! I do buy expensive clothes for special occasions or picture day but I fully understand that he will most likely distroy it.

Yes

We're sad that my niece and nephew are now too old (they just turned 7) for a stroller.  We'd only use it at theme parks for the past few years, but we (DH, BIL, SIL, and kids) go a few times a year.   By the end of the day they'd be fast asleep in the stroller...

Where the heck do they think the word "holidays" comes from? Holy days. I don't see how that's any more or less offensive from a PC standpoint than "Merry Christmas."

I say "Merry Christmas." If someone gets offended by the message behind it - have a happy holiday - that's their problem, not mine. I wouldn't be offended if someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah if that's what they celebrate. The message is the same - enjoy happy times this season with your family.

I totally agree. 5 and 6 year olds in strollers. Really?

To add to that, I hate when I see 4 year olds with bottles and pacifiers and also when I hear that a mother is still breast feeding her toddler.

This, at 5 and sometimes still that he is 6 I take a stroller. Not most times but when I have only an hour to get a bunch of shopping done I have to use the stroller. He gets tired and in large crowds its easier to keep track of him, and little feet do not walk too fast. I know some people might side eye me but whatevs.. I do what I have to do to run errands in the time I have.

I agree with you, too, Lue. When I was pregnant with DS I was on the WebMD forums and there was a lady that said she stopped BFing her DD at two. A year later when she had her DS her DD was curious and wanted to eat like her brother. Yes, she allowed her almost 4 year old to relatch. Disgusting. I think if they can say "I want milk" they should be getting regular milk and food.

There should be a special test or something in order for you to drive a big truck/SUV because more than 1/2 the people out here have no idea how to drive the one they have. It took this woman at least 6 reverse/pulling forwards in order for her to get out of the starbucks parking lot when it should have taken two max. She had no business driving that suburban. There. I said it.

I can't agree more with your first paragraph.  I feel like it also insults the faith of the victims and their families.  It's like saying that no matter how religious they are, or if they simply believe and have faith, since there wasn't a cross on the wall or they don't say the "Our Father" as a class in the am, they were ignored or forgotten about.  I think it's terrible.

My mom used to make me suck it up when she went on marathon shopping / grocery trips when I was five or six. I think I am better for it and I have great legs- probably from all that walking.

I agree that we shouldn't judge other parents because we don't know the situation- but I'm very thankful that my mom didn't baby me.

I don't go shopping with DS. I leave him at home but usually I resort to online shopping for most things and DH does most of the groceries. I can't deal with it, so I admire those that do it, stroller or not. I also work full time so I have the option of shopping in actual stores on my lunch break thank goodness for working in Manhattan.

There. I said it.

Maybe you live near me!  That sounds like a lot of people I see driving around.  I live in suburbia and there seems to be this trend of buying giant suv's or pickup trucks with extended cabs/truck beds just because.  Some people just shouldn't be allowed to drive them.

Christmas hasn't even happened yet and there are Valentine's Day merchandise already on the shelves. Why can't they just wait at least until Jan 1st to bring it out. Seriously, can we enjoy the holiday season we are in NOW.

I'm just curious, how old do you think the little boy was? At our rec center the rule is under 6 are allowed in the locker room, but I was just discussing with a friend who we take swim lessons with (she has a girl, I have a boy), that I think by 6 it would be weird for him to be in there changing with his friends.

You are just awesome at being an assh0le and shoving your foot in your mouth, aren't you?

Your "great legs" have nothing to do with that. I had pains all the time as a kid. Turns out it was a hip issue. No amount of walking as a child was going to fix that. Fortunately my mom wasn't a d!ck and realized that her child wasn't capable of doing long walking trips without a break.

And I see we have our resident idiots judging people for BFing toddlers and calling them disgusting. Awesome.

Edit- quote fail- this is in response to kicius56

Ha ha- I think my parents would leave me with my grandparents for the day sometimes to do Christmas / birthday shopping. I'm a December baby. I agree with the posters who said we can't judge and crowded shopping malls can be dangerous. At the same time I appreciate the fact that my mom would tell me to "have a stiff upper lip" when we ran long and boring errands because it helped me realize that I don't always get my way in life. I'm not saying that everyone should take their kids shopping all the time but if I'm lucky enough to have a child I will probably take him or her with me on errands if there is no way around it. I will make them walk when they are 4 and up if they are able bodied. That's my choice- I understand other people might think I'm too tough.

Fair enough - say what you want.  But I get why people want to keep it as Merry Christmas.  Christmas is about Christ no matter what political correctness wants it to be.  My DH is jewish and he says Merry Christmas to people and people say it to him. He is not offended and doesn't feel like people aren't including him. He thinks people are being nice and wishing him well.  Also we don't play around with the wording of jewish holidays to make others feel included.... that's not really the point.

But I get that you want to wish everyone well....... the sentiment is right.

I'm very sorry that you had a hip problem. Obviously if there is a medical issue the child shouldn't walk. I was referring to my personal situation- not your situation. I truly hope that your hip doesn't give you anymore pain.
