FTM with a travel question

Our baby is due Feb 7th and my DH's sister is having her wedding March 23rd.  It is a 6 hour car ride away will it be ok to bring the baby at that point?   I know you arent supposed to fly when they are that little but what about a long car trip?  thx

Should be fine for baby, just plan on a lot of feeding/diaper stops. It might depend how your recovery is if you will want to sit for that long, but most likely it will be fine.

We just took our baby on a 6 1/2 hour car ride. She slept the enitire time...babies love the bumpy car rides!! The only time she woke up is when we stopped at a service center to eat and I had to change her diaper and feed her. :)

We did a 5 hour road trip when DD was 6 weeks. I was more than ready for it. I felt so cooped up all the time, I couldn't wait to get out of my city! It went great for us, just stopped a couple times for feeds and diapers. No problem!

That will be fine! If the baby hasn't had their first round of vaccines yet I would just be a little more careful about who holds him/her. And the minimum age to fly is 7 days old, so you could fly as well (although for a 6 hour drive it's not worth flying).

You'll be fine, you just may need a couple extra stops for feedings, etc.  And FWIW, we flew w/ DD for Christmas when she was 5 weeks old, she pretty much slept in the sling the whole time, and nursed a little.  It was by far the easiest trip we've had with her!

You'll be fine. The hardest thing is to not over pack and over think it. That young, most babies end up all snuggled in their car seats and sleep longer stretches than normal. As pp said, plan on diaper changes and feedings along the way. I would say a good estimate would be 3 stops (one every couple hours), but that's probably over estimating. GL!

Assuming you don't have a "car screamer" like I did, you should be fine. My LO hated the carseat, stroller, swing, bouncer-anything that she had to be strapped in to.

It depends on the baby.  We couldn't have taken a trip when DS was that age - he was unhappy 24/7.  So, it's a bit of a generalization for people to tell you your baby will love the ride and sleep the whole time but for your sake, I hope it works out that way Big Smile

We are due at the end of January/beginning of February and we plan on going to Oregon via airplane at the end of March. I am terrified of flying with an infant, carseat, stroller, a 6 year old and everything else you bring for yourself!!!

We took our son on a 5 hour car ride at one week old.  We just had to make extra stops to nurse and change diapers.  It was much easier to do when he was one week old versus one year old!
