Mom's of 2 +

Just found out Im about 4 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have a 2 year old that weighs about 31 lbs. He is pretty self sufficient, i very rarely have to lift him...maybe into crib and car seat (he is still in the middle of car)  Ive read that its Ok b/c your body is used to this type of lifting and to just limit it (see Dr mid Jan) Im making myself nervous about this....Im just picking brains here....anyone that has already experienced this do you have any advice?

I think you're ok to lift things as long as it feels ok and you're not hurting yourself.  Lifting things isn't harmful to the baby, it can just be harmful to you, as in you can pull muscles and such.  Continue to do whatever you're used to and comfortable doing, but if it causes you pain, stop or modify how you do it.

I carry my 2 year old daily. I'm used to picking him up all the time, so I don't feel like I'd be straining my body doing so.

I don't have any other children but I do work at a daycare with the infants and toddlers. My body is used to picking up and carrying around 20, 30 pounds so it hasn't bothered me and i continue to do it.

I am pregnant with twins and have a LO that is almost 15 months. I have to pick him up.... he still is so little. Really, you have to do what you have to do. I have been carrying him around this whole pregnancy and it has not caused any issues.

I have a DD that is 30 lbs and DS that is 27 lbs.  I rarely lift DD except like you said for car seat and stuff.  But DS is in a clingy phase and I carry him a lot.  My OB said even with my subchorionic hematoma, with which I'm not supposed to do any heavy lifting that the kids are fine, just to bend my knees when I pick them up.

I was picking my 2 year old up still right up to the day before my last c-section.  I didn't pick her up anymore just for jollies though.  I would pick her up because she wasn't listening somewhere like the play ground or because she was begging to be carried up to bed but if I could I'd make her walk by the end.  Mostly because by then I'd be completely out of breath carrying her up the stairs or all the way across the play ground to the van ;-)

In other words, if it feels ok it probably is ok, if it doesn't then it's not.
