seeking good back carries for woven wrap

I spent an hour with youtube, a mirror, and our bed trying to wrap my daughter. Epic fail. Do you personally have any back carries you like? I can search for videos. The rucksack carry and a back cross carry were not happening. I feel very confident about a number of front carries. I don't know what happened.

I've heard good things about the double hammock.  I have not successfully wrapped my LO on my back without help from a babywearing group, though.  I prefer my Tula for back carries.

Back carries take lots of practice so don't give up!

Personally, I like the ruck tied in front, ruck tied tibetan, and the reinforced ruck for my go to quick back carries.

You might also try searching for Secure High Back Carry and Double Hammock on YouTube.

I wouldn't say any back carries are easy though, you are still going to need lots of practice and you will probably need to look in the mirror while you watch a video for awhile. You'll get it though. :-) Good luck!

Back wrapping is a skill, and like any skill it takes a lot of practice.

The frist carry I learned was a Ruck Tied Tibetan, I also think SHBC http://www.thebabywearer.com/forum/showthread.php?484810-COTW-Week-12-Mixed-Carries-JBC-GBC-SHBC is a nice one to learn becaus ethe first thing you do is secure baby to your back, tie, and then work on spreading your passes.

I practiced over the bed, with DH spotting me, and in front of a mirror a lot before I really got the hang of it.

Personally, I double hammock a lot now but I think it's a conplicated carry to learn if you aren't used to back wrapping.

ETA: forgot to ask, what size is your wrap, that can really influence how appropriate a carry is.

ETA Again: I see you are in Chicagoland, there are lots of bwing groups and meetings here. I can help you find one if you aer interested.

I do love back carries, but it takes time. With DS1, I spent about 3 months trying them at home and meetings before I was comfortable. Eventually it becomes second nature. I has DS2 on my back at 3 days old.

Double hammock is a good starter back carry. It isn't the easiest in terms of instructions, but it is a very forgiving carry so precision isn't imperative. In contrast, a ruck carry is one of the easier ones in terms of steps, but is a precision carry--you have to get it just so to really work. That said, I think that starting a ruck by "supermanning" baby+wrap on the back makes it much easier to get started than doing it with a hip scoot.

Check out the wrapping forums on thebabywearer.com and look for the COTW (Carry of the Week Threads) for loads of great tips, pics, and videos. But, best of all: BWI has a local chaper if your siggy location is right: http://bwichicagoland.wordpress.com/

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am using a Didymos size 7 and I'm a tall size 14. I'm going to take a look at all these suggestions. I'd love any info on Chicago groups, SouthSide. I'm just west of the city, very close to the Brookfield zoo.

I think it's impossible for me to back carry. I've tried multiple times over the years with my daughters. I think I'm not flexible enough- my back/neck has always been screwed up, and my arms can't reach back far enough to mess with the fabric. I'm still going to try again when #3 is born, but I'm guessing I'll just always have to stick with front carries.
